Stopped by Office Depot on the way to work at 8 AM and found the new Palm TX was in stock with a price of $299.99, but I mentioned that I had heard that there was a sale with 10% off. THe sales clerk couldn't find any such sale information, but she gave me 10% off anyway. So I got it for $269.99 before taxes....... It is black plastic and has 100 megabytes memory available with no partition. It's still charging and haven't loaded the software yet.

Lucky you. I checked all of the Office Depots in my area and all I got was an informed "Huh" when I asked if they were in stock. :p

:DI had to ask the clerk and she found 4 in the back room. Try again. They have a 14 day no questions asked return policy. Staples didn't have any.

It's a T5 with Wi-Fi and more user memory (100 Mbytes). The market for used T5s is going to drop like a rock, so I'd better get it on eBay soon if I'm going to keep the TX, which is likely.

Everything seems to work.

I must be perfectly honest...if my TH55 wasn't in the amazing shape it currently is, I would be in line right now to buy a T|X. :D This T|X looks like a REALLY good value for what it offers.

It is black plastic

I've got mine charging right now, but it looks like a midnight blue plastic to me...

I love that is matte, not shiny like the TE series with its fingerprint messiness.

I was also suprised by its weight. It isn't heavy, but it has a solidness to it.

Bree

P.S. Nice job on the discount. I paid full price, but it was still worth it.

In most light, it looks black to me. True daylight is the best test and it's cloudy here.... and night now..... in any case :D I like it.

Does the TX come with VPN support?

Thanks and Cheers.

Does the TX come with VPN support?

Thanks and Cheers.Yes, same as the T5, you have to load your client of choice.

Interesting. So if I understand right one has to buy a VPN client and then install it.

The Wi-Fi driver software that comes with the SD card actually has a VPN client included. I wonder whether this client would work on a TX too?

Cheers.

My TH gets heavy use and a lot of carry around time in my pocket at work, thus, I am sad to say, it is aging, although it still functions as well as the day I bought it. The T|X looks like (finally) an answer to the TH, minus the camera, which I never use anyway and minus the highly annoying (IMO) slider on/off switch and equally annoying flip cover. I like that it has the same size screen (I wonder if the color is a vibrant as the TH?), that it has so much more internal memory and a fast processor (but, the question is what about battery life?) and the price is most definitely right for what you're getting (WiFi AND Bluetooth -- 'bout time!)

Well, I must admit after all this reading into the specs of the TX, I'm intrigued. Before I even think of replacing my beloved TH55, I need to feel it in my hands. According to the specs, it's actually thinner and little smaller than the TH55, which I dig. I'm intrigued about the flip-cover...what's it like, Zano? Kinda like the SJ22 flip-cover (sorta soft, easily detachable) or like the TH55 flip cover (hard, difficult to remove, and see-though)?
Honestly, I'm not bummed about the lack of a camera, don't really use the one on the TH55 (especially since it hasn't worked for a while). I do wish it had a voice recorder, I do use that often.
In any case, I think I'll stick it out with my TH55 until it kicks the bucket (*gasp*). But it's nice to know that perhaps Palm is finally going down the right path so when I do buy a new PDA, there'll be some good options. What I wouldn't give for a new line of Clie's... c'est la vie.

The flip cover is leather with a thin plastic and rubber connector that slides into the grove on th eleft side. Folds over the face of the TX easily. Being new, It's a little stiff. It's just like the T5 flip cover. I don't know what the TH55's looks like.

Totally agree with your thinking filber & COmedic04. :)

@Zano2004:

Here's what the cover looks like. It's translucent, hard plastic. Which flips up, but not all the way over (MAJORLY annoying)...and it kind of a pain in the RumpRoast to remove. :( :p

Picked up a T|X today. :D

The VPN client that comes with the SD Wi-Fi card works just fine.

Cheers.

The TX flip cover folds behind the back of the unit while the device is being used.

I know, I know, I LOVE my TH55...but I guess what I'm really lusting after is all that SPEEEEEED! :D :p (300+MHz!...compared to 123MHz)

Well... you are right ;) speed is sometimes thing which we th55 users are missing :o

You could overclock (or does it not work?)
The TX seems to be good spec wise, but we will start to hear about a lot of bugs in a week ;)

Nope. Doesn't work for us Sony HHE users. :( So...we're stuck at a measly 123MHz. :o

LupeValenz
10-14-2005, 06:22 PM
There is no bugs! Lol, the T5 and the lifedrive was the test models for this finely tuned device lol :D *Well, thats what I'm hoping*. I am lil annoyed that sometimes it doesn't power on when you press the button, have to press it twice sometimes >_<

dragonsgames
10-14-2005, 06:25 PM
That is all? That could be good, sometimes :)

LupeValenz
10-14-2005, 06:34 PM
I guess it could, helps prevent those accidently turn ons, but darn it, I want it to turn on when I WANT it to turn on hehe.

dragonsgames
10-14-2005, 06:39 PM
Does it have a hold switch? Or were the Clies the only ones that did ;)

LupeValenz
10-14-2005, 06:48 PM
No hold switch >_<. Wish there was, but thankfully Pockettunes turn off screen after set amount of time :D. Nother thing that bothers, Home button can only be mapped to Favorites or applications >_<. Can't switch it to zlauncher agggh.

100 Mbytes of user memory sure is nice! How many Palm OS devices have 100 Mbytes of user memory?

Thats what you think. 190 is possible safely, though I am sure it would eat battery like crazy at that speed. Dmitry informs me that dynamic clocking is just not plausible on the TH either because of the slow clock changing speed of the TH.

I can think of four - Out of these only one has over 100MB of real memory: The Zodiac 2.

After that, the T|5, LD and T|X have 256M, 4G and 100M of Flash memory ;)

I want to know the 'real' memory (DBcache) amounts for the T|X.

The T|5 was allegedly 16MB RAM and 6MB stack
The LD was 32MB and 6MB(?) stack
The T|X is ??? RAM and 4MB stack

TH55 is 32MB RAM and 7MB Stack

LupeValenz

Well it seems to be one now, seems most of the time, when I have turned off the device while an app was in landscape mode, then turn it back on, it seems the touchscreen is screwed up and doesn't register the taps on screen, only way to fix this is just by resetting the device because you can calibrate the screen when it doesn't register the taps >_<.

Actually, it does seem to prevent accident turn ons because to turn it on, you have to hold down the button for a lil while to activate, not press down on it twice..well, you could, but hold down for about a sec and it will turn on :D. Pretty nifty to prevent those accidental turn on and drain your battery problem hehe.

The TX has arrived!!!....and going back!!! Its a good PDA, but while my TH is still living, I'll keep it :D. I'm happy to know where to go when it bites the big one. The one thing that annoyed me was the horrible blue tint color >_<. Makes some themes and videos look egh :P

dragonsgames
10-16-2005, 09:10 PM
I knew the blue was a bad idea. Maybe it can be painted black somehow???
The TH55 looks like a good PDA, I would keep it while it lasts :D

LupeValenz
10-16-2005, 09:13 PM
Nah the casin is alright, it almost looks black, the screen color though. I was watchin collateral and seein that blue tint on it aggghhh >_< Just didn't play well with me lol.

dragonsgames
10-16-2005, 09:14 PM
The SCREEN has a blue tint too? Do all of them, or do you just have a defective unit? :p

LupeValenz
10-16-2005, 11:10 PM
I think all of them, the screens really are not always that great compared to sony >_< Though some might not notice unless you have a device to compare too ^_^
