Does anybody know if the magnet to shut the Vaja cases affect the functioning of the Clie?

Will not hurt it one bit. The device is shielded but keep credit cards away.

The magnets don't affect the Clie itself at all...

I have proved that the Vaja magnet hinders the alarm from sounding yet the light comes on and doesn't switch off draining the battery. I proved it by putting the cover that came with the Clie back on and the alarm worked and the battery didn't drain. I would put in for a refund only I made one of the credit card slots such that I could put a memory stick in it.

If you knew the answer, why did you post the question?

Anyways, I personally have a T615-C and a Dr. Palm case with a magnetic closure (although it clips behind vs. the front w/the Vaja).

I'd have thought that if the magnet on the front of the case caused defects in the equipment that this sort of thing would have been discovered by Vaja...or at the very least by other Clie'-ers.

Might want to check the warranty on your T-665...just my $0.02.

FYI, I didn't find the magnet thing out until long after I posted the question. It was by the process of elimination because I didn't get a satisfactory answer. Maybe I am a one and only problem! I like the Vaja case and am heart sick that it doesn't work.

Anyways, I'd be interested in your Dr. Palm case. The magnet at the back may be different. My clie is a T615C. I can't seem to find a suitable one. I don't want a clip - hinders it from laying flat.

Check out http://www.glblsrc.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=9&cat=8&page=1&PHPSESSID=17a073e37cca6ffacb2ea4b5d9d1e26c (actually on this site!).

Thin leather, though.

I wonder if the problem is that the Memory Stick or something is touching the screen and/or some hard buttons? I would especially wonder about this if the case flap has been modified.

Many cases press one or the other of these and interfere with some programs, or turn the PDA on when it is in the case and drain the batteries.

Try one of the programs that keep the hardware buttons from turning the Clie on, like KeepSleep. I have had a lot fewer problems like this since I started to use it.

Calling Madkins 007 - Thanks for your imput.

Can you tell me about Keep Sleep. Does it allow an alarm to go off??? I have asked this on another site and can't get an answer.

KeepSleep shows up in Prefs, and does not interfer with alarms (I have used alarms in Agendus, BugMe, BigClock, and MegaClock with KeepSleep in place.

It gives you two choices- disable hardware buttons and disable sounds. Clean, simple, small, and not a hack. It is also FREE (well, technically it is mail-ware)!!!!

The URL is: www.shin.nu/~FocV/

There are similar programs, including a relative newcomer that has shown up on Freewarepalm.com lately, but I like KeepSleep.

Thanks Madkins007.

I got KeepSleep and it has solved the problem. Thanks a million! I didn't have to disgard Vaja case after all!

Glad to help!

Personally, I think KeepSleep and similar products are pretty near vitally important, and often overlooked!

madkins007 - question about your liking KeepSleep. Have you tried StayOffHack? Do you like KeepSleep better than StayOffHack? And does KeepSleep also deactivate the scroll and back buttons?
Thanks

I don't know StayOffHack. KeepSleep serves my purpose of not turning the buttons on. The Power Button is sunken in the T615C so doesn't get affected.

KeepSleep deactivates the 4 'program' buttons, the scroll buttons, and the JogDial- but NOT the 'extended Back button means 'on'' option. It also disables all sounds with one check box.

I currently am not running any hacks, and am trying to keep it that way, so if I can find a good, clean, simple, small, FREE program that does not require a hack, then yes, I prefer it.

I have not run the two head to head, so cannot offer a direct comparison, although I have used StayOff some time ago.

Funny...now I *hate* my Dr. Palm case.

I've dropped my Clie' on more than one occasion, and didn't realize how paper-thin the leather REALLY was until I looked at the corner of the unit (the Dr. Palm case leaves them exposed - kinda like a Clie' bikini. :D ) Dents and scratches.

A friend of mine did something interesting:
* He kept his flipcover on for extra screen protection.
* He bought a Belkin T-615 case (I just bought one for $20 US)
* He slips the bad boy into the Belkin case.

Pros:
1. The Belkin case AT LEAST goes all the way around the Clie' (except the jog wheel.)
2. The case is thicker than Dr. Palm (but thin enough to feel the unit's vibrate alarms).
3. There's a slot for money, cards, etc. that WON'T push the Power button or app buttons on (many times I opened my case to find my T615 dead, and the "wallet slot" had been pushing on the Datebook button or something).

Cons:
1. Not as thick as a Vaja.
2. No cutouts for speaker (but I use vibe alarms anyways). Don't know if speaker's loud enough without cutout.
3. Snap doesn't seem as solid as the one on the Dr. Palm, but works fine.

Overall...I've been looking for an inexpensive case that wraps ALL the way around the Clie, and I think I found it.

Case is at <http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=1&Product_Id=125510#>.

Wow.

Interesting thing happened on the way to the (movie) theatre. :D

I climbed out of the wife's RAV4, and =SNAP= the plastic nib (?! whatever) that goes in the belt clip *broke right off* my Belkin case.

And my ol' T615 took a nose-dive.

But...the padding of the Belkin took the punishment, and protected my Clie. :p

I thought I'd have to buy another case. So I went online to http://www.belkin.com to check it out, and saw the wonderful words: http://catalog.belkin.com/Images/logos/lifetime.gif

So while I did have to spend about 10 minutes on hold, I will receive my *FREE* replacement case, WITHOUT having to send the old one back.

Looks like the gift-giving season came twice this year.
