I have just purchased a MS. I would like to copy or install programs on it to run on my Sony Clie SL10. From reading several threads it appears that the directory tree set-up is important. The memory stick created a PROGRAMS directory and a ZLauncher directory off the Palm directory. The next time I turned it on there was a ZLauncher directory under the PROGRAM directory with Theme, Backimage and Icn set directories. Do I use MS Import or Gate to copy the programs (eg. a game) to a new created Programs/ZLauncher/Games directory or do I use HotSync and sellect the MS as the destination?
Any help would be appreciated.

My experience is with an NX (and actually I use MegaLauncher) but I'm pretty sure that if you HotSync and select the MS then the programs will probably wind up in a PALM\LAUNCHER directory, from which they'll launch just fine. Those zLauncher-derived directories are for the launchers own themes and stuff.

Poison is correct. All launchers will find apps in /Palm/Launcher/ directory. In ZLauncher, just tap and hold on an application, then select 'Move to card'. ZLauncher will move the app file only to the /Palm/Launcher/ directory. If you move them yourself or hotsync them here, then you need to tap Menu/Options/Refresh apps for them to appear in ZL if you don't have Auto sync /Palm/Launcher/ checked in ZL Preferences. I recommend not checking that box in ZL because it scans the card every time ZL launches and really slows it down.
I have two primers on memory cards on my website (see signature below). Another excellent source of helpful information is launchplug.com.

Thanks,
I tried it with some games and it worked. Does this remove it from the Handheld and free up the memory? I will read your primer and see what else I can glean. Do all programs you move this way go into the ZLauncher directory proper? Is it possible to make subdirectories souch as Games and then put the porgram in the appropriate folder? I would like to load a Bible program and others and I am just used to having things "organized" (horrible fault!!)

All executables must go into the /Palm/Launcher/ directory, which is defined by the Palm OS, not ZLauncher. You can put them on separate tabs in ZLauncher as you see fit to organize them. If you move the apps, then they will be deleted from RAM. If you only copy them, then they will not be deleted from RAM. The built-in Palm launcher just copies them, but ZL will actually move them. You can use ZL's file manager (version 2.3 and higher) to see what is going on under the hood.

I HotSynced the Solitare game to the MS according to your "very nice" primer instructions. The game is now on the MS. When I did a "Copy to card" command and it copied the executable, you could still see the program in the games category of the palm. Now you see it when you select the card category. Is this the way it works? I am new to MS, etc. If this is the way it works, then OK I will just look for the program on the MS tab.

You don't need to "Copy to card" if you've already got it installed there. Essentially, what you have now is TWO copies of that app on your card (you can verify by checking the 'All' category.
You can move card apps to any category using ZLauncher. Tap and hold on the icon in ZLauncher, you'll see 'Category' in the pop up list, tap that and it lets you move the app to any category available.
When you install any new app in ZL, it will initially show up in the 'Unfiled' category until you move it.

You want to "Move to card", not "Copy to card". The latter leaves a copy in RAM, which you don't want. You can delete the game in RAM with the built-in file manager, or tap and hold on the icon, select "Trash Can" from the pop-up menu, and uncheck all the boxes in the next dialog box except "Delete application" and tap OK. That will delete the app file but not its data or preferences.
After you move an app to the card, or even before, you can put it in any tab in ZLauncher. You can do this by dragging it to a tab, or tap and hold it, select "Category", then pick the category you want to put the app in. This way you can put all you games in a Games category, et.

After experimenting it seems the following:
1) If I add the program directly to the card, via MS Import or HotSync, it puts it in the Palm/ZLauncher program and can be seen on the card directory only. If I tap and hold, there is no option for category. If on the otherhand I
2) Put the prgram on the Handheld it goes to the Unfiled category and I can then put it in any category. I then have to move to card and then it appears in the category on the Handheld.
I was unable to drag to category after it was installed directly to the card and there was no option to "category" if it was put directly on the card.
Is this right?

That's correct. The card tab is different from all the other tabs in a number of ways, one of which is that is really isn't a category. When you hotsync apps directly to the card, which is the preferred approach, you need refresh ZLauncher's database by tapping Menu/Options/Refresh apps. It will then appear in Unfiled and you can change its category.
