SAN FRANCISCO (AFP) - Internet search king Google and US tech giant Sun Microsystems said they would team up to offer spreadsheet and word processing software online in a head-on challenge to rival Microsoft.

The two companies announced a deal under which they will allow all web users access to Sun's OpenOffice files -- its equivalent to the dominant Microsoft Office programme -- off Google's website.

Wonder how those targeted ads will work...

I'm thinking that the adwords would be updated on the fly. This would be fun to test... it's like always having google running in the background.

I'm also thinking that you could print a document but it would have ads... unless you pay a certain fee.

No fee, ill bet. Google only charges for ads and corporate searching, as well as keyhole. They have a print view in GMail. I could be wrong, but I think this would go against Googles philosophy. At the moment, they have done nothing bad, but they would be looked at a little less favorably if they started charging. Like they need the money anyway??
