I will have to return my Clie th55 to my employer.
Bought another on ebay.
Use MS Outlook for contacts. Clie updates this when I synch. Have XP on desktop.
How do I transfer my programs from my old Clie TH55 to my new TH55.
Some will beam but many such as the address book will not.
Thank you for your wisdom.

The best way is to make a backup. Try Powerguard (http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/powerguardlite.shtml) (its free) because MSbackup uses the deviceID so you cant easily restore msbackups on another device. After making the backup do a hard-reset on your new device an copy all the files from the memorystick directory /palm/programs/powerguard/current to the palm handheld, using cliefiles which is in the TH55 ROM

Use BackupMan. Worked perfectly for me when I went from one device to another :).
Download it here (http://www.bitsnbolts.com/backupman.php).

Not sure about the merits of Powerguard as I haven't tried it. With your new TH55 you'll want an automated backup. BackupMan can not only accomplish the transition, but you can program it to back up your device every night while you sleep. Then, what I do is back up my MS once a week to my PC's hard drive, so that should my TH55 ever "go walk-about" along with the MS, I'll only need to replace it and the MS, copy the backup from PC to MS, restore the last backup, and I'm in business! ;)

Poor man's way, half-arsed instructions!:
Get FileZ (It's free; Get it directly from nosleep.net or freewarepalm.com)
Copy everything in your Internal RAM to an empty directory on your VFS card and copy FileZ to /PALM/Launcher
Put the VFS card in your new TH55 and copy everything back out into the Internal RAM.
No VFS Alternative:
Get FileZ, "Select All" everything in your Internal RAM with the Backup tag
Configure HotSync; System->Handheld overwrites Desktop
HotSync old TH55
Make new user for new TH55
Copy old user's Backup folder to new user
Config HotSync; System->Desktop Overwrites Handheld
HotSync new TH55
Hacky way:
Run MSBackup->Backup on old TH55
Hack the MSBackup config file on the VFS with your fav. hex editor to have your new TH55's hardware ID
Run MSBackup->Restore on new TH55

Thank you.
Purchased Backupman.
Have installed it to my old Clie th55 and backed up the programs on the card.
Where do I go from here?
How do I backup the files on my desktop?
What do I do to get the data from the old clie to the new clie?
Instructions are not clear. Need some step-by-step help.
Very much appreciate this.

Once you use BackupMan to backup your device. Take your MS out of your device and place it in your other device. Make sure BackupMan is on the other device. Once you place your MS in your other device. Open Backupman, the backup file should be listed. Go to the File Menu and restore.

Steves0, this is all very good advice and, I think, easier than the way I do it...
I have two TH55's. My old one has ZLauncher and the new one uses the Clie Organizer. Since the only thing I care about being exactly the same on both units is the PIM data, I copy the PIM data files from one user's folder to the appropriate user folders for the other TH and do a 'desktop-overwrites-handheld' hotsync.
The Backup Man way seems much easier to me.
