HDR displays (48bit color) make the prime-time.... 37" 1920x1080 (which tells me they are aiming for digital TV market, which is wierd). It's so hot it's cooled by two watercooling systems....

Blah, does it also have a water spigot? A screen that requires liquid-cooling scares me. :)

Not have as much as a year ago, I got a preview of the HDR monitors in the new technology area at Siggraph. We got talking about the technology and I asked why the adjustment controls were taped up. He said if you turned the contrast high and brightness high you blew up the monitor....

I can see why they watercooled it...

You all have looked at the review and videos? It is pretty impressive. And, with the brightness on the demos, you would be likely to burn yourself if you turned the brightness on high. The system itself has a 200,000 to 1 (though technically it is infinite) contrast ratio, which can modulate from a flat 0cd, up to 4000, which is alot higher than any similar set on the market. The 0cd effect is created by individually modulated LED backlights. The set is unlike anything you have probably ever seen. Okay, rant over, go look at the review. Anyways, they really dont make tvs, they just license the LCD tech, so we just need to wait for other companies to start making them. They say they have already licensed it to a large manufacturer.

Oh I love the video, and I agree with the reviews. Once you see a picture on the screen you realize what you have been missing. I've been waiting for it for 3 years now, litterally! I've seen prototypes at Siggraph, so I've been waiting.

I knew the first models would be expensive.... just a shock to imagine two of my automobiles still is cheaper...

No pun intended, but wouldn't this screen suffer from burn in?

after seeing what is left in your checking account, you are going to be hot under the collar.

And I wouldn't want to get burned, if the screen is a lemon.

Yeah... for 50K that would really burn you up!

But then again, having the hot item on the block would bring nerd-envy.
