I'm currently encountering a serious problem on my LD. When I launch the WiFi application, be it through the Prefs panel or simply by switching WiFi on through the status bar pop-up, I get a soft reset. The error message after the soft reset reads: Error. WiFiPanel.c Line 4506. Can't init WiFiConfig.

I've deleted every single hack/utility from my Palm except MegaLauncher, I've tried soft-resetting, and warm-resetting. The only solution I can think of is a hard reset, which would be annoying given that I will only have access to a restore PC in November. Please help.

Try this, it may work, get a copy of Netchaser and install it, its made by bitsnbolts.com.
After you install it go to Options and then reset system wifi.
This will delete all your current wifi settings (NOT ANY SYSTEM FILES) and soft reset your LD. Try your wifi now.
Worth a try, certainly easier than a hard reset anyway

Try deleting the savedpreferences.prc file. That fixed a similar problem for me.

Won't deleting the Saved Preferences file reset all/a lot of my settings?

Won't deleting the Saved Preferences file reset all/a lot of my settings?Yes, delete the Saved Preferences file would delete all settings for all application on your device.

Error. WiFiPanel.c Line 4506This makes me think that it is associated with the WiFi preference, panel. Poking around with FileZ, I find that the WiFi preference panel has a CreatorID or 'Wpnl' (All preference panels have a TypeID of 'panl'. I found it by filtering for that type and then looking at the files names; 'WiFiPanel' is the one.) Searching my Saved Preferences, I can find nothing with the CreatorID of 'Wpnl'. However, searching my Unsaved Preferences I did find 4 entries. Therefore you might try: deleting just the 'Wpnl' entries in the Unsaved Preferences. Doing so, you will loosing all your WiFi settings, but still retain all your other application settings.

Yes it would. What you can do, though. Is copy your savedpreferences file from your backup directory to somewhere else on your c: drive. Then delete savedpreferences to see if it fixes your problem. If it does, great. If not, simply reinstall your savedpreferences file as you would install any prc.

The NetChaser idea didn't work, I'm afraid. Thanks anyway.

What program would I use to edit the Unsaved Preferences file?

Hi,

RescoExplorer can display the content of preference files, but I would be extremeley careful with that. You can really mess up your PDA.

The best would be to remember when is the last time the PDA was working correctly, and to get a copy (backup) of SavedPreferences and UnsavedPreferences prior to this date. For this purpose, I use RescoBackup (big fan of Resco, sorry, even though I am not involved in this company), and I keep one backup set named "LastGood". This is a set created the last time that my PDA was working flawlessly. This allows me to get a not-too-old working copy of the preferences (or any other application, for that matter).

I hope it helps.

Trouble is, I don't have access to a PC I could use to backup/restore... So I need a solution that is Palm-based, not PC-based. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Hi,

The backup solution I was proposing is palm-based.

Now, of course, if you didn't backup your data prior to having the problem, I don't see another solution than hard resetting... ;-)

Greetings,
Laurent

What program would I use to edit the Unsaved Preferences file?To simply delete records in the 'Unsaved Preferences' or 'Saved Preferences' files, FileZ can do it; the user interface is not very good in this part of the program, but it can do it.

I've just noticed that Bluetooth phone connection doesn't work anymore either. When I bring up the Bluetooth dialog and tap 'connect', the dialog closes and nothing happens. Same when I try to connect from the Bluetooth Preferences dialog.
