Last week, a nice little virus wiped out my entire hard drive. If I ever find someone who write viruses, I will eviscerate them.

It led to a full hard drive wipe and reformat. As I reinstalled software, one of the first things I installed was Palm desktop 4.1.1E from the web. Went fine. The next day I tried to load on the LifeDrive Manager software from my CD, but it wouldn't take. It kept telling me there was some error of network connection. So I tried to uninstall the Palm Desktop - can't do it. I again get an error regarding a CIApl.dll file being in use. No matter what I shut down, I can't get at that file. I can't uninstall the Palm Desktop, and I can't reinstall it either.

Anybody have any ideas how I can get the LD Manager software back on my computer with this pain in the butt in the way?

I too can't install or uninstall palmdesktop 2 days ago. It keeped on telling me that palmone.msi couldn't be found. Cleanup, scandisk, etc... and the same result. The message is different, so perhaps it's not exactly the same problem, but nevertheless, you can what saves me :

- rename windows\install
- create windows\install
- re-install palmdesktop in a directory different from the previous install
- copy all the content of the new windows\install into the old one
- rename the old windows\install back into windows\install

Hope this helps.

You may still have the virus, or some spyware, which is locking that particular file, preventing it from being deleted.
