I'm trying to construct a cable to connect my eTrex to my SJ20. I have a serial sync cable and a 4wire gps cable. Does anyone have pinouts for the SJ20? And recommendations on software? Thanks
SJ-20 has the same pin-out as T-series, 18 pins.
Here are the pin connection between the Clie and eTrex:
Clie RXD (pin#13) to eTrex TXD (pin#2)
Clie TXD (pin#14) to eTrex RXD (pin#3)
Clie GRD (pin# 1) to eTrex GRD (pin#1).
Do not connect eTrex PWR (pin#4) to Clie PWR (pin#7 or 8) since they have different voltage, unless you use diodes to drop Clie charging voltage (5.2VDC) to eTrex charging voltage (3.2VDC).
If you're not sure about any of these wirings, better be safe by spending a little bit more money and just buy the connector from PC-mobile.net (http://pc-mobile.net/clie.htm).
Garmin sends signal to Clie through NMEA (National Marine Electronic Association) format. Once your devices are connected, just go to eTrex menu interface and select NEMA In/NMEA out.
BTW, I use StreetFinder, but there are others that may be better like Mapopolis. Just search this Clie Source site for starter.
