Hey, I just thought! It is better than having an NX and suddenly the hinge gives out!

Flip and rotate doesn't last forever.

I have used flip cell phones all the time and never had a problem with the flip...

It probably weares ot, but what the heck. If it lasts for three years (That's about how long a lithium-ion battery lasts), I'm satisfied

Li-ion battery for 3 year? I really depends on how frequent you use your clie

well....3 yrs...that's good enough
i doubt anybody would stick with a clie for that long~

...maybe you haven't used your NX for that long a time yet. A great number of NX owners complain about the NX. Many mods have been done trying to revive or preserve the hinge but non seems to keep it from wearing out. Perhaps that is why they made the TG50 go back a step in the screen placement design process.

And remember, since our batteries are user replaceable we can keep computing for years!

really? how come i read a thread here say it is not? the mention something like "user removable" but not "replaceable". just for the recycline of the battery.

Haha...the battery is removeable but not replaceable? Well it's just a saying I bet. If you have damaged battery, you can't replace it with anything on store shelves unless they have specially ordered the battery. I bet you can get a replacement battery if you called Sony.

Yeah - the pimply-faced kid at Best Buy tried to get me to buy their extended warranty on the TG-50 by saying that the Li-ion battery would only last one year and is very expensive to replace. Needless to say, I didn't fall for that crap. Man, they are really agressive on pushing those extended warranties.

Looking at the unit, it appears that 1 small screw holds the battery compartment in place. Has anyone looked in there to see how easy (or difficult) it might be for the user to replace the battery? I'm hoping I can just go to Radio Shack and pop in a new one...

Well, according to the TG50 "Read Me First" guide (that comes with the package), there're sections on "Recycling lithium ion batteries" and "How to remove a rechargable button battery". They can be replaced by users.

Yeah, I know. I was asking whether anyone had actually peeked inside and made an assessment as to how easy (or difficult) it is, and whether it is a common type that is available without a special order to Sony.

In one of the booklets included in the package, there are some printed pictures of how the interior would look like in black and white. It doesn't seem too hard to replace. Why worry about it when it's not broken? There's a ribbon which I'm guessing is used to let the user get hold of the battery and be able to slide or pull it out. After it is out, detach the battery and replace it with a new one, pop it back in with the ribbon viewable, and I guess that's it. I'm judging by the picture. NO need to open up my new TG50 just out of curiousity. Don't fix what isn't broken.

Cripes, I'm not asking for anybody to do it! I'm asking if anybody HAD ALREADY DONE it (for whatever reason). I don't want to open mine up just out of curiosity either, but I'll bet somebody out there has!

WGSquallx2002- Actually, I have owned the nx for a while. And yes, I have 300 something posts in like 3 months, and 95 percent of them are on the nx board. You will find a LOT of threads about if the hinge will give out or if you are worried, but you will find almost everybody saying it is as good as the day they got it.

Oh. Haha thanks for enlightening me. As a TG owner who once wished he owned an NX will bow down and offer an apology.
