View Full Version : What apps have you actually bought?
kudos

Like most other net users I expect to get virtually everything
for free specially when it comes to software.
I was wondering what application / games / utils people
have actually paid their hard earned for?
So far I have only purchased Wassup! $5 for a combined
launcher and 'Today' utility was a bargain.
I'm seriously thinking about purchasing NR Buttons and
Iambic Agendus too, as far as I can tell they are the
only two pieces of software which I actually find
essential.
What does everyone else find essential enough to
purchase ???

I have bought AcidImage, YiShow, BackupBuddy VFS, Lemonade Tycoon (not a wise purchase), ZAP2016! - I got given to me Agendus and Siberian Strike thru a Sony promo.....buy far AcidImage and Agendus are the most useful apps I have seconded by YiShow (I like purty things)....

The only applications I have bought are YiShow (well worth the price) and the WordToGo upgrade. I have been able to find freeware to meet most of my modest needs. I mostly use my PDA for email and reading, though. I did pick up some games, such as TipTap, Space Trader, and Vexed, but they are all freeware/shareware. I did buy the Ten Thousand game because I found it thoroughly addictive. I am cutting down on that thanks to a 12 step program.

Long List, purchased over the years. Some are totally useless now.

Hey, mochant!
Wasn't that book AMAZING?? I had never even heard of Dan Brown prior to reading The Da Vinci Code...he is a genius. I just downloaded Deception Point and Angels & Demons this morning, (they are on special as a package deal from Palm Digital Media right now,) and can't wait to read them! I have bought all of my ebooks from the Palm Digital Media site and take advantage of their Subscriber Discount code that comes in their weekly e-mail newsletters.
As for Palm Reader Pro, I really like the color and font options, as well as the auto-scroll function. With as much as I enjoy reading, I felt it was worth the money. Take care!

Tixx's list looks like the folders files under Clie on my external Maxtor drive. The stack of my receipts alone is about 1.5 inches thick. I don't have the energy to count them all. Currently, I slimmed my Clie down to a 100 or so apps. Most them are registered and paid for, except for a handful freeware apps. Of course I had Handspring Visor-Prism-N760C-NR70, and now an NX. Additionally, I have a long history of Windows CE crap too. The whole point is fi everyone had spent as much as I have, all the developers would have Gates as their last name.
I even had the Timex-Sinclair and a TI 99/4A complete system with expansion box, BTW I still have both boxed away as I never throw anything out, just in case I may need it someday, LOL :)!
From a Pilot, to a Palm, to a Palm III to a Clie NX70, this system has sucked up a lot of money over time (most of it well worth it). I have purchased:
Planetarium
Mobipass
Diet&Exercise Assistant
PowerRun
BackupBuddy
RPN (calculator)
Acid Image
WordSmith (no longer needed with Docs-To-Go)
Games:
Kyles Quest
KQ2

Currently, I slimmed my Clie down to a 100 or so apps. Most them are registered and paid for, except for a handful freeware apps. Of course I had Handspring Visor-Prism-N760C-NR70, and now an NX. Additionally, I have a long history of Windows CE crap too. The whole point is fi everyone had spent as much as I have, all the developers would have Gates as their last name.
I even had the Timex-Sinclair and a TI 99/4A complete system with expansion box, BTW I still have both boxed away as I never throw anything out, just in case I may need it someday, LOL :)!
I stopped printing reciepts as it was getting rediculous. at least 2 inches thick and I stopped.

I should have some kind of raffle (raise some cash) and it would be for my user name and everything that goes with it. Illegal stuff I know for all that would like to tell me so, but think of all the apps they would get.

handango project mgnt suite

Compared to Tixx, my list is tiny! More power to him if he can utilize his software. All of the above work well on my tg50 (don't know about quicken- I just ordered it on line)

MS Dict
+ the MP3 player, and that's probably 99% of the time spent on my Clie, so I don't need any other software. There are lots of great freeware too.
My List from first purchase (June 1999) to now:
Handbase (currently at Professional) - use loads
Quicksheet (currently at 6.2.3) - use regularly
Olivetree's PilotMe - use infrequently at the moment
Actionnames (Agendus - now at 6.02) - used loads
Ewallet (desk and palm version) - mainly use the desktop version
Parens - obsolete ... use Snapcalc hack mostly
BibleThumper - use fair amount but slow loading
Maxilaris Note - infrequent use
Wassup - intermittent use!
Concordance with You - use loads
BDicty - use loads
Zlauncher - use loads
ISilo - use loads
Aggression - starting to use :D
+ bucket loads of free stuff
It's frightening how it all adds up with upgrades as well - over $330 in total but I'm using most of the bought apps alot which appeases the conscience ;)

I'm just wondering why you have backupman and cardbackup at the same time? Which one is better? Another stupid question is that MSbackup so inferior compared to those apps? I'm considering to take one of those apps.

Just celebrate the fact you have all that money to spend on "crap" and "stuff".
I doubt it would make a developer a billionaire, tho, but it is a nice thought.
Everything I have is registered and paid for but I don't have a need to collect apps just to brag that I have 100s of them. If you use them on a regular basis I guess that is cool but I am still confused how one could use a 100 apps every day or so and get anything else in life accomplished. Please let me in on the secret!

Scheduled backups are a must for me and both of the 2 mentioned in your post can handle that. They also both handle multiple cards. Give them a try. Each can also restore individual files. Reason I have both is for peace of mind:) and I had a 15% off coupon so I got everything I could think of at once:)

I just live off demos, I have bought one or two ZL skins, because sometimes you have to go the extra mile for art :)
My latest additions: zlauncher and checkMoney. I read about checkMoney some where here, tried and bought it. I am happy to report that it has exceeded all my expectations. I am a traveler and appreciate the feature where I can track a travel bill in a foreign currency. It supports my recurring bills and creates pretty sound reports!

Greetings!
I have purchased only 2 applications.
BDicty, along with the English Pro (70,000 word) dictionary module and the English Thesarus (50,000 words).
Online VT100 Terminal Emulator.
I enjoy writing, and although I have been called "a walking dictionary" by people before, I always keep a dictionary near me anyway. Now I just keep my Clie around and don't bother with my VERY tattered book version :D
I purchased Online VT100 Terminal Emulator because of the 80 character screen width - no other terminal emulator I have found supports this feature. I personally like VT100 better than Online for day to day use, but I found Online good enough to pay money for.
Best regards,
Bawko

Answer -
I have purchased, the following and been happy with my purchase...
WorldMate Pro (awesome)
Beyond Contacts (awesome)
Documents to Go (couldn't live without it)
IOU Mate (ok)
Passwords Plus (Very nice)
Printboy Anywhere (ok, great when you really need it)
Smart List (the best database program)
Dragon Bane II (nice RPG)
Billiards (great graphics, fun)
Medieval Heroes (good RPG)
I have also purchased the following program and then considered it a mistake...
Dose a day (DataViz) Not a bad idea..but need more variety..also it takes up 2MB of memory and has to run on your internal memory.
Mobile DB...not too user friendly...like Smart List much better.
When you buy these programs realize that you will have to choose your "Hotsync ID" and will be stuck with it on most of these programs unless you plan on buying the program again. DataViz, is a good company and will work with you well on upgrades, but plan to spend some money getting all thier software initially. Good luck..welcome comments - Dave

There's not a quick answer to Agendua for DB5. Best bet is to try them both out for the demo period and see which one best fits your needs. They're both great apps. You might also be interested in my comparison (http://tech.hernandez5.net/html/datebk5_vs_agendus.html) (I'm a DB5 user myself).

I was wondering what application / games / utils people have actually paid their hard earned for?Well, free is good. :D I've gotten quite a few programs for free for beta testing, but usually, you need to have a fairly new PDA . . .
The programs I've purchased include (but aren't limited to):
DateBk5
PalmReader Pro (although free is excellent)
Life Balance
JackFlash & Sprat (when I had a N760 & NR70)
HandStory
Shadow Planner
Icon Manager (so TOTALLY worth it!)
PhotoSkin
McFile
BackUpBuddyVFS
SplashShopper (retired)
Zlauncher
Pocket Planter
PDA Cookbook
SilverScreen (back when it was the ONLY game in town
YiShow (the only program I've ever considered a 'mistake'!)
There are quite a few 'retired' that are programs that haven't been updated for hi-res. I've had a PDA for years . . . =)
The programs I've gotten as a thank you for beta testing includes (but is not limited to . . .):
AcidImage (this was a REALLY fun beta test!)
TV Browser
LightSpeed
Agendus
TV Browser
Woman
Legacy
GB Solitare (a truly BEAUTIFUL solitare game!)
Launcher X
In addition, I've gotten a few programs completely free, no strings attached (you'll see threads about them here, when they're available), and they include Rayman (on SD card), MobileDB and Iambic Mail.
And in case you're curious as to how to become a beta tester - write to developers if you've suggestions for their programs. (Don't offer or accept if you can't keep a secret, though.) Most developers are VERY interested in what 'Jo User' thinks about their software . . .
I've bought:
Bejeweled!
and ummmm......Nothing else except all the Hitchhicker books.

Okie lets see. First app I bought was CJKOS cuz I wanna store some data in Chinese. Then I bought iSilo cuz it's on discount from the Sony HK site. Then I bought Cubis and 2 copies of Insaniquarium (one for my bf) from Astraware during the X'mas 2003 since they're almost half of normal prices. This month I upgraded my Docs To Go Std Ed. to Premium Ed., bought Monopoly and Dose-A-Day Dilbert from Handmark.
I usually buy apps when they're on discount. The exception were CJKOS & Docs To Go. As for ebook, I have only bought "Silence of the Lamb" so far. Then the person who created the ebook gave me Red Dragon and Hannibal for free! :D
YellowRose, why was YiShow a mistake for you? I like the program and is currently trying it out. Am considering if I should fork out $ for it. Please enlighten me if there is any problem. Thanx! ;)

fssia,
The little matching game on PDA playground is sort of cute. I don't know how much use you'll have from it without kids. I have a whole herd of kids (6), so it will come in handy for me on those emergency "I'm bored!" events. The older ones play SpaceTrader, but the younger ones... Anyway, it works well from the card, so it doesn't suck up any RAM.

ffsia,
No problem. The older ones are teens (13 and 15). So, they play whatever I have on there for myself. The younger are 9, 7, 5, and 4.

Ahhh...teenagers would appreciate Space Trader a lot. I wonder do they tend to attack the pirates and other traders or do they tend to run & ignore (respectively) like I do. Just wonder would kids be more "aggressive" when challenged? :)
Btw, are u at ease when they handle ur NX70V? I know I am very possessive of my Clie, so I dun like others handling it...not even my bf, hahaha! :D
