Are you serious about the Coke thing? Caffine is bad. Drink Peppermint Tea :).
As for ACCESS buying out Palm, does this mean no more non-Palm OS Third Party apps??
EX: Netfront v3.x for PPC/Symbian OS.
Yes. PowerRUN is my friend :). OMG. Thanks for the list of apps. Spellchecker, RescoLocker. I never knew about this.
BTW, usually it is with little memory that forces us to be more organized.

For the comment on the Coke, I love Coke Zero. I am a type 1 Diabetic, and it tastes so close to real Coke:) Great podcast as usual.
I thought I read that the new Tungsten had a built in camera, is this not the case? I didn't think they'd ever put a camera on a Tungsten, but I'd welcome it, I know palminfocenter is reporting it has a built in camera. I think $299.00 will be awesome, so much better than their usual $399.00 Tungstens of the past.
I am also drinking the push email Kool Aid, I am a chatter addict:) I just installed Resco Locker onto my Treo 650, very nice app. I think we will see Cobalt come back from the dead. I agree Jeff we are in a better place now. At least ACCESS has publicly committed to Garnet, Cobalt, and POS Linux, something PalmSource never did. I feel good with this acquisiton moving forward. Great podcast again. I have it now linked at my website, the more the better:)

Somehow I really doubt the T X will have a voice recorder and a camera. The Zire 73 will come out with all of that later. If they put that on the T X, it simply means that they are killing off the mid range Zire line.
IF it has these two features, built-in WI-FI, and the TE 2's amazing screen, it will be the PERFECT PDA for me. Well, I still need Netfront and a native pdf reader, but surely with Access in charge now, we will have those in no time. (Hopefully with Cobalt while we wait for Plinux.)
I'm glad I didn't buy that terrible hx4700 and stuck to palm, despite the nightmare that the LD was for me. Will the T X be everything it should be? Who cares for a metal case when you have such a light and thin PDA! Black will look cool also. I am buying this for sure if it has a new screen, wi-fi, voice recorder and camera (even a VGA camera will do.) And SOOOO cheap!
Crossing my fingers...

What, running around in circles screaming is not appropriate behavior? ;)

But... why would you want it?
It makes apps on NVFS cached permanently in RAM, but RealRAM PalmOS devices like the UX, TH, NX, T|3, T|E, Zod etc. have all their apps permenently in RAM *all the time* anyway - We don't need such kludges :p
Heh, you know, in many ways things like RescoLocker and SharkCache are the opposite of Brayder's MemoryJack ;)
SharkCache makes NVFS devices more like RealRAM devices, and MemoryJack makes RealRAM devices more like NVFS devices :D

Quickly as I'm getting ready for work...
I didn't mention the camera thing for the T7 because I don't believe it. Nor do I think the T7 will have a voice recorder.
Running in circles while screaming is a lot of fun, sure, but it doesn't accomplish much.
I don't think ACCESS will stop making NetFront for other platforms.
Chatter freakin' rocks.

We have to draw the line to defend Coke Classic from Coke Zero. If they get rid of Coke Classic, what's next? Diet Coke? (Alan drinks lots and lots of DC.)

So should I just not do analogies anymore?

Yea, I knew that the camera sounded fishy, I didn't believe it. Ther eisn't even a camera icon in the screenshot of the device. You're right Jeff, it looks like it is just going to use the same exact case therefore no camera, and probably no voice recorder. I could never see a Tungsten having a camera, Palm leaves that to the Zire.

Thanks for the props to us UX50 diehards Jeff... With careful planning and organization, it is quite possible to live in 16MB main memory. Its almost time for a new cell phone for me... definately thinking of the treo 650.... hopefully a new one will be available by the time i take the plunge.
PowerRUN was always one of the first apps I installed in my Clies. I stopped using it on my LifeDrive but I still highly recommend PowerRUN. Thanks for mentioning the app, Jeff.

Agreed. When you love a device's form factor/features so much, you will make sacrifices to have that device.

palm os is with microsoft and the more companies that emerge the worse, and the less choice u have to choose from one company to another, i still say microsoft owns access and now own palm os. Many should think more about those starving children and parents and basically starving people making those gadgets that sell for thousands of dollars or hundreds and yet is only made under one hundred dollars. What about those starving people. why isn't palm making pda in the u.s. answer: too much to pay 5.15 an hr. unlike in china where it is much lower and people working in unprotected factories to make that item u sooo much love. MAny think about katrina but what about those who starve everyday and those who starve making products that we all love..-_-

Anyone know of an opensource alternative to PowerRUN or ZLauncher?

I think it was updated for OS5 too.

Wow, very few posts about this podcast. I guess there wasn't much there to really discuss this week. Personally I hope we get some kind of PDA news soon from Palm, Inc about some new devices. I'm bored to death hearing about Treos though. Please let it be non Treo news.

AMEN! The treo is great. But, I don't have one and I don't want one. I miss when we had more to talk about than the treo.

Yeah, that's true. But there realy isn't all that much to talk about, this whole podcast was on the psrc buy out, so it wasn't too bad, just nothing to interesting to talk about here. Great podcast though Jeff, you did explain why they spent so much, so it wasnt wasteful :) BTW, I got a new laptop and I'm posting on it right now

MemHack is free and provides an important subset of those features. I use it on my Treo 650 in addition to ZLauncher.

Two things:
1. I completely agree that the Access deal is going to be great and that Palm Linux is in a much better place because of it.
2. This is the third podcast (between 1src and palm addicts) that has mentioned "Card Text" as a really cool text editor for palm but I can't find it and no one is linking to it in the show notes. If you are going to go over a list of palm apps you should try to have links to them and if not then at least spell them out so the rest of us can find them.
Thanks for the great podcast

The app is spelled CardTXT. Do a google search on that and you will find plenty of places to download it.
