View Full Version : T5+ZLauncher - DBs/Prefs resetting

Okay, I've been using ZLauncher for quite some time and on my Zire72 I never had any problems with it.

Now since I've migrated to the T5, the bloody thing has reset about half a dozen times! By "reset" I mean that the prefs/DBs are reverting to an older state where recent changes to preferences, categories, etc. are all lost. This is getting exceptionally frustrating as I'm getting sick of constantly refreshing apps on one SD card, moving them all to their appropriate categories, only to lose them again whenever there's a crash or some random system flake-out that causes them to revert back.

Now, this must be a T5/NVFS thing because this stuff never happed with the Z72. It seems like stuff isn't getting synced properly from the dbcache and therefore not getting backed up. What the heck is going on, and how can I get the T5 to behave and back stuff up properly?

I have RescoLocker which I've used to lock a few background apps in the hopes of improving system stability, but so far it hasn't really helped any. Should I be locking ZLauncher? Is there something else I should be doing to get this thing behaving properly? 'Cos as it stands right now I'm starting to think buying a T5 might have been a mistake.

ZL runs rock solid on my T5, so I suspect some other app is the real cause. DTG is a real dog when it comes to crashing the T5.

Also, my experience of RLocker is the same as yours...it's a waste of space and does nothing.

Well, the DTG is a promising sign -- I use MobiOffice, I just never got around to deleting DTG. Perhaps I should go ahead and do that...

I tried browsing Resco's forum regarding RLocker and it seems some people have had some success and other haven't. I don't think there's any really clear idea of what sort of things you're supposed to be locking (primarily hacks/background apps) and that sort of thing. It's a little annoying, frankly, trying to figure this all out -- NVFS was a great idea (though I've never let my battery run down to the point where its lack would have affected me) but the instability caused by constantly moving apps around to/from main memory and the dbcache is almost not worth the bother.

I find it very odd that a soft reset would cause the preferences and DBs to default to original configuration. Contact ZZTECHS directly as they likely are the best source to solve your problems.

It doesn't actually happen on reset -- it usually only happens after a fatal alert. (i.e. last time it happened was when I used PalmInternals to scan my system. It crashed on exit, resetting the unit, which then caused the reversion)

Ordinarily I can reset the unit just fine (it's actually necessary on quitting ZDoomZ, as either it or UDMH doesn't release heap memory upon exiting, so a reset is necessary to recover heap space) it's just when something misbehaves (or the T5 misbehaves) that stuff like this happens.
