Avantgo doesn't work well, can't seem to figure out Isilo

Well I have for years been a user of Avantgo and loved it.
I relied on it and found it to be very very dependable.
Then I upgraded from a m515 to a NX70V, which rendered Avantgo as useless.
U have been trying Isilo and have really been trying to give it a try but seem to find
that All I get is http:\\ links when I open the News etc...
I open News and then the story and there I see line after line of web link addresses.
Does anyone know what I am doing wrong???
I have tried to get what I had which was a Yahoo group I think it was MyYahoo but
not as much as that which shows up when I go to that page on my m515.
In that group I had News, Sports, Weather, & Stocks, but I cant seem to get myself
signed in to the group.
The Isilo doesn't send my user name or password..
So I was willing to generate individual groups New, Sports etc. but as I stated above
it doesn't work, all I get are address's.
In Isilo I have activated the cookies but still nothing.
I did get my Weather to show first page of sports to but when I tap on a article there
are the address's again.
I have tried to find a answer at www.turcic.com, but have not been able to figure it out..
Any help or explanation???

I also found it very convoluted and confusing myself. I had much better luck with Handstory and setting it up was a no-brainer. It also has automatic updates and a whole lot of other features. I didn't care much for Mobi-Pocket either.

I am registered for all three, but Handstory outshines the others IMHO :)

Larry beat me to it, but I gave up waiting on AvantGo and switched to handstory. Can't imagine that I'll ever go back.

Ok I just downloaded the basic version, and can't seem to be able to figure out how
to create, or for that mater get this started in a web viewer mode.???
The only view I have is of my existing memo pad memo's.
Any advise?

I'm another HandStory convert. A bit of a learning curve from Avantgo, but once I got familiar with it, I WILL NEVER go back.

Nice clipping of just about anything; webpages, images, text clips, all integrated with your desktop browser. The Hi-Res + support is excellent. The webclips with images look incredible on the NX, and are sized/formatted very well for the NX's screen.

First, I have to agree about Avantgo for OS5. It's a STINKER.

My 'one thing' with Handstory is you can't set it to autoupdate more than once a day. (I have registered it though, the ability to highlight something on a web page and save it to palm is worth the price alone, IMHO!)

BUT. I have Isilo configured to 'scoop' every 3 hours, automatically, so chances are, whenever I sync, I'm getting new content. Yes, it took a little tinkering and a good bit of reading, but I'm pleased as punch with it now . . . does exactly what I want.

If you're interested in setting up Isilo for your own use, I encourage you to go to Turcic.com. There is a gold mine in his forums about setting up & tweaking isilo that is invaluable. He's also got a terrific selection of links.

It's automatic, basically you don't have much on the Clie to configure. On the desktop, right click on the Handstory Icon in the system tray and all your setup options are there, including management of the web clippings.

Sometimes I find it just as fast to connect to the web through the WiFi and get my info there.

You know, I made this one forum where you can ask any kind of question related to iSilo or mobile web content. And there always are nice people around who try everything they can to answer your question. In other words, you could have always asked... which you didn't.

However, by following your posts, I assume that you find Handstory superior for your needs. Fine. Everyone has his or her own needs and should find his or her optimal way to suit these needs.

Turic.com is not only a helpful source for iSilo, but also provides extensive links. I don't think I would have registered iSilo if not for Turic. Everytime I posted a question I got a quick and friendly reply.

I have iSiloXC configured to update my pages twice a day, and I don't think I'll ever go back to AvantGo.

It took me a while to get use to Isilo, but now I got the hang of it, and it works great.


One of the best feautres I love is, I can take a pdf and convert it to html, then to isilo, in a matter of minutes.

That is a great help, because Adobe Acrobat on the NX is a dog.

Ok this seems to have gotten harder not easier.
Back to my original issues.
I am not the most well versed in this computer / app stuff.
I only wanted to get what I had with Avantgo.
I tried iSilo, and have stated in my original posting [the first posting] that I was
experiencing nothing but web addresses instead of the info for Yahoo.
I have since tried HandStory and cant seem to get it to download even web pages for
the Yahoo address that I wanted...
If there is anyone who used Avantgo and relied on the Yahoo page that asked you to
sign in "once" and the you could have your customer settings from you hompage, in
reference to Movie locations, Weather locations Sports teams of interest etc.
PLEASE can someone help me with this???
I am happy that everyone has an opinion on software but I cant seem to get the info
for how to get this to work for me.

I think that turcic.com really made me go for iSilo. I love how you can download the list of just about every mobile website on the planet. I would never have spent the time myself to configure every website and the link depth, etc. So thanks for having that all set up so all I had to do was delete the pages I didn't want and I was ready to go. iSilo might take a few more minutes to learn, but I think in the end you will be happier with it.

I was exactly in the same situation as you - I didn't have time to mess around with scripts, DOS commands and so on. I eventually came across Plucker which does exactly what Avantgo did except it had no restrictions and it's commercial free. One thing worth remembering is that it doesn't grab the latest web pages during the HotSync - you have to update the pages manually. However there is a scheduling facility available, but I don't have the patience to work it out.

I am wondering how I can get the My Yahoo page to that I used with Avantgo to
work correctly.
I have created a URL or new channel and copied the address which has the user id
and password for the page.
I still cant get it to appear.
Any help would be appreciated.

how does Plucker compare with iSilo? Why would one pay for iSilo if you can get Plucker for free? Is Plucker hi-res+? http://hires.plkr.org/ is not available now... where can I get it?

Because Plucker != iSilo.

Plucker hi-res is very buggy, it doesn't support tables, its output is slower, it doesnt support cookies. Just what came up to my mind right now.

My vote is for iSilo and use turcic.com for to find mobile URLs. Alex is awesome at keeping information up-to-date. There may be a sharp 10 minute learning curve, but once you get the first one right its pretty straightforward. Just install iSiloX, go to turcic, grab the source URLs you like, set your target (default is hotsync, but saving directly to MS is faster), and adjust link depth if your not getting the content you want. Its the best thing since cheese whiz!

If any of the three can get your My Yahoo page, it is probably iSilo. I am a Handstory user and I'm sure it doesn't support log-ins or cookies yet, which is what you will need to access your My Yahoo page. In Handstory, I have replaced everything that mattered on my My Yahoo page with individual sites, which are more thorough. I get my local weather from Wunderground. I get local Movie schedules and movie reviews from Hollywood.com, I get news from several sources New York Times, USA Today, etc. The only thing I haven't been able to get with Handstory, so far, is personalized stock quotes. But I really don't care about that anymore since I started using Stock Manager (also stock quotes have been too depressing to want to see anyway).

I do believe iSilo supports either log-ins or cookies or both, just couldn't tell you how to set it up. There is a thread here, started by Tixx, that addresses this in relation to the WSJ.

I don't understand your problem with Avantgo. I have been using Avantgo for a month now without any problem. I keep the program in Ram and the data in the memory stick. The only thing that botter me is when loading the info from the MS which take about 30 to 45 sec. but after loading, everything works well.

Well I have downloaded the newest beta release, which does allow me to enter my
used, and password for MyYahoo.
In the first beta version released, I would enter it synced and it would not take.
Now it does.
I only hope that they can get this thing to generate quicker...
It takes about 45 seconds, and I figure it must be a major drain on the battery.
Anyway I have tried the others and I guess I am just dull in the brain because I could
not get any of them to get My Yahoo to work.
iSilo I got to download the first page, but when I chose sports of weather it just took
me to another screen with http's...

iSilo supports both, HTTP authorization and Cookies. In my forum you can read how to successfully configure iSilo for all these channels, NYT, WSJ and MyYahoo.

n0m0n -- Don't give up! You're almost there; to remedy your current problem, just go to the 'Links' tab in the Document Setup window, then set the Link Depth to 2 (or more). Basically, iSilo will now download the current page, plus the pages behind the links, and the pages behind the links on those pages, etc...! Please note that on larger sites with tons of links, the iSilo file size can increase exponentially with every +1 link depth increase since it downloads EVERYTHING (you can also set it to not download pages that are not on yahoo.com).

So, for example, you would probably do well setting your Yahoo iSilo document conversion settings to a Link Depth of 2 and disabling the 'Follow off-site links' option. This means that, while browsing the Yahoo page, you could click on say Sports or Weather (link depth 1), then click on any of the headlines (link depth 2). Note that if you try to click any links at this point (aka: trying to go to link depth 3), you'll get the page with all of that text!
