I'm looking for an opensource or freeware JPEG viewer.

I've tried Tbmpedit, but it seems to be slow at rendering even small JPEG (100k) files. This may be because it's trying to open them for editing. I don't really need editing capabilities.

Anyway, just looking for suggestions / recommendations.

I use GS Image Viewer (http://www.geocities.jp/g_isihara/) along side Clie Viewer. There are several others, but most require seperate memory storage such as a Memory Stick or an SD card.

Some other highly rated viewers:
AlbumToGo 2.0 (http://www.freewarepalm.com/graphics/albumtogo.shtml)
For older Palms:
VD Image Viewer (http://www.freewarepalm.com/graphics/vdimageviewer.shtml)

If none of the programs listed satisfies you, you might find something you like at freewarepalm.com.

I'll check out GS Viewer. Maybe someone else has some recommendations. I also tried TPMPC, but it doesn't have scaling yet, and JPEG seems to be a low priority, which is understandable.

Bummer, it looks like GS Image Viewer is only supported on Sony Clies. I tried it on my Tungsten E2, but it wouldn't work.

I've seen a couple of open source libraries, and was surprized to find that there aren't any simple viewers.

Have a look at VFSi (http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconValley-PaloAlto/7022/oldcontents/vfsi.htm), which can handly bmp, jpg and even txt files. It works fine on my TE.

Doesn't your E2 come with Palm Photos either installed or on the CD? It came with both my E1 and Zire 31.

A little info as to what PDA yer sportin' would be helpful, userwaldo. ;)

BTW, Jpeg Show! is all I use. SWEAR by it. But...it's only for Clies.

Jpeg view! and GSI Viewer are the two best JPEG viewers out there for Clies (Written by the same guy ;)), but because they use the Clie hardware acceleration (Which is why they are so fast ;)) they don't work on other Palms.

VFSi isn't a bad alternative 'tho, I use it on my Zod because the Zod's photoviewer is a lod of crap.

Sorry I did post it later. I have a Tungsten E2. I'll check out VFSi. I used it a little on my Zire 71, but haven't tried it on my Tungsten E2.

JpegView (http://jpgview.de.vu/) is definitely the best one out there, I'd even suggest registerring it, it's worth the $. I also use PDA photo but that doesn't read jpegs directly.

JpegView is pretty nice. It's now a freeware program, and I'll probably keep it handy. The one think I wanted, that it doesn't have, is the ability to zoom in. The scaling just resizes the jpeg, and makes it really small on the screen. It would be cool if it could zoom from full size down to 1/8th or 1/16th.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation, JpegView is going to be a program I keep around.

Just some info: Renaming Files with VFSi sometimes corrupts them....

There is a great freeware file viewer called UniCMD (http://www.unicmd.de) that has :) everything including a jpegveiwer!

UniCMD looks very impressive as a swiss army knife type file explorer...

the following 2 viewers seem to meet my needs, and i thought i would let others know.

JpegView - http://jpgview.de.vu/
unicmd - http://www.unicmd.de/en/

I like GrxView. Many formats are supported and it opens images well enough as far as I've used it. Costs money though. A REALLY good freeware viewer app akin to TCPMP would be nice. I wish I was a CPA.

Splashphone is not free, but in my opinion, it is the best jpg viewer out there. It even has been reciently updated to version 4.34.
You can download it here. (http://splashdata.com/splashphoto/index.htm)

Yeah, I never thought of that, but I guess you could do that on a handheld, just the same as you could on a desktop. Even make the pages, upload to a ftp, and view.

SplashPhoto looks nice, but does it support more file formats than just jpeg?

I have had a lukewarm experience with UniCMD, i like it alot and it's an amazing grouping of useful features, but it's File Associations wouldn't stop stealing my data, and putting on my my SD card, so I had to uninstall it.

Your right.... jpeg is all it will do. But on a positive note, it won't create thumbnail files in every folder you have pics in either. I tried out AcidImage, and that's what I didn't like about it.

I used to use GrxView until TCPMP came out with a jpeg (camera) plugin. Works like a charm, reads from CF and MS and handles full screen slideshows no problem.

GrxView suits my tastes and it has a good set of options as far as I'm concerned, image caching can be controlled, and with UDMH, GrxView has allowed me to open some large images easily. I went for the GrxView + Softick Card Export II deal you can get at both developers websites, both programs at a discount, covered two birds with one stone. CE2 is another must-have IMO.

Of course, TCPMP is just like no other media player, truly an awesome feat of programming. UniCMD is also a very well made program, in my opinion the most robust, yet least bloated multi-purpose "swiss-army knife." I went back and played with and fixed my previous problem with UniCMD, and now feel that with both TCPMP and UniCMD, one is covered very well when looking for freeware options to image viewing, and much more. Still, paying for a good viewer was worth it to me. Paying for MMPlayer on the other hand...

You can disable that in the preferences. "Save thumbs:" Never.

I thought Web Pro only works for T|T3. Does it also work for other pOS HHs now, or does it have seperate files for T|T3 and the rest?

AcidImage Basic is relatively cheap, but since you already have SplashPhoto, there isn't much reason to get AI.

I just saw a new program for viewing JPEGs, GrxView Lite and it looks pretty good. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but thought I would share it.

Yes, I already wrote about it:
http://tamspalm.tamoggemon.com/2006/08/31/freewarepalmcom-software-spot/

It only opens JPEG files and doesn't support editing, but it is fast, supports thumbnails and of course zooming in and out. In a German Palm forum someone also said that it supports 8 MP pictures.
