Awsome little gadget; needs more space though.

My personal take. Pretty cool, and though smaller is better, it doesnt add any new features. My guess is that Apple was spooked by the Zen Micro, and decided it didnt want the mini to have to compete with a handheld that looked very similar, but had better features. Instead, they introduce a new line, and they are no longer competing with the micro, they are on their own again.
I know you guys want one. ;)
(oh, I ordered the white version)

The black one is nice, but my current iPod still does its job. So this is in my impulse-buy category, like the GBA-Micro. Things I want, but don't need. :)

I like Sony designs better than any Apple MP3 player.
I love the OLED screens.
This one is awsome:

Tooo bad their design doesn't carry over to the user interface and sync software. I give a Sony an A+ for product design and an F for user design. :p Where as I give Apple an A for prodcut design, and an A+ for user design. :)

I hate the software. AND it doesn't work with Mac, I don't think.

One of the requirements listed is pc with usb 2.0 port. My 3 year old pc doesn't have 2.0. Does this make it useless on my pc?
SonicStage has been discontinued but Sony has now announced Connect (http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=12184). I agree with one of the posters there... it looks like iTunes!

Shouldn't they've been thinking about something like "Connect" about 5 years ago? Before introducing new walkmans and the PSP?
Apple put allot of thought into the whole digital integration thing, and were about 2 years ahead of everyone else. They are also the only company that had the means to implement it properly. Sony unfortunately has to rely on a PC that runs somone else's OS.

USB 1.0 should work fine, though it will be alot slower for transfers. Adding songs will be okay, but you will find that initially loading up your song library will probably take a long time.

The USB on my Clie is 1.0, it goes about .5 mbs per second. It should work, but it will be, as I said, .5 mbs per second (which is slow)

Thanks guys. After a little more research, I see on the website that usb 2.0 is recommended. Audible.com is offering $100 off one with a yearly subscription (either $14.95 or $21.95 per month). Since my clie has very little room left, I thought one of these would complement my pda by freeing up some space by transferring my music to it. Also, I am on the go alot and listening to certain audio books that I may not otherwise read sounds appealing.

OMG you didn't say Vomit or ConnectVomit or something to that effect. LOL. Anyway, love the way the new nano looks but I think they (once again) designed the device poorly. The screen should have been longer or the device should have been landscape. I think that a portrait screen would not have hurt. More real estate for your songs. Poor design.
BTW, they finally come out with an all black one. I mean the U2 one looked ugly to me. Red and Black looks like a devil's ipod or something.
Apple's progession of the iPod is like a baby's learning to walk, One step at a time. First they crawl (grey screen Ipods), then they stand and fall (color without photo support), then they take a few steps and falls (color with photos), now the baby's not walking anymore but crawling again (nano). The baby will start walking (when a video Ipod is released). If the baby is 21 months (not sure if this is when a baby starts walking) then it won't walk till its 5. LMAO!!

Vomit is overrated. :p
Baby steps works. They're doing this for that ROKR phone. I'm sure if it tests well, Apple will work on a design that's more appropriate. But like the oriringal iPod it's somewhat blah. But at least Apple didn't design it this time. But as we rambled aobut before, simplicity works, and in this area the iPod is very mature and works well. In this case, other companies are all in their infancy and still need some growing to match. Sony's still in the womb when it comes to matching what Apple started working on in the late ninties. :)
A portrait screen would be great, especially if it could play videos. QT Pro handles H.264 without a hitch, so Apple has everything in place, they just needs to be releasing the hardware.
After I get my GBA Micro, then I'll be thinking about one of these things. But I'm not going to go out of my way to pick one up, unless my iPod finally dies. Then hopefully they're back up to about 6 gigs, I need at least that for my current collection. :)

Just buy a USB 2.0 card for your PC. You won't regret it. More and more periph's are geared toward USB 2.0 and it's SOOOOO much faster that USB 1.1.

now the ipod video is out, i dunno which to get, nano or video. it seems that the video ipod has a longer battery life than the nano. but i have to see the 2.5" screen in person to justify my purchase.

I would get the iPod. Just plain iPod :D

The videos is the plain iPod now. :p GIVE ME BLACK!!! I like the Nano, but would go with another larger capacity iPod. I have 15 gigs now and haven't used it, but I have used more than 4 Gigs.
Who cares about the screen, when its main purpose is music and that's what it does an excellent job at. But having the same level of ease-of-use when it comes to videos, is a definite bonus. :)

They should've left it at the Video iShuffle. :) After that, eh.
I found this funny, it's nothing new, but if you haven't seen the video for the iPod Flea, it's worth checking out.;

Sorry, it's in WindowsMediaVomit, an atrocious bastardization when it comes to video codecs. At least G4TechTVRadio, used Flash's FLV, which I like, they just had horridly designed controls. :)

c'mon ipod nano mini rules. Its probably even smaller than the flea. And theres a screen on it. Not that you'll be able to see it anyways.

The tiny screen was funny. I think it's the overall production value of the Flea parody that I liked better, but the Video iShuffle made me laugh. :)

Aw. I am of course also a Clie person inside. One of the best things out there.
Unfortunately though even 2GB wouldn't be enough. I have 20GB+ music. So I need something separate.
Even more unfortunate is the fact that Sony hasn't yet come up with a decent PMP. :(

Yeah. Sony should definitely release a brand new shiny clie.
It should have... say a 40GB hard drive. And it should cost <=$500.
Ahh, dreams.
Oh, also, it should have a killer battery - like 30 hours at least.
JackAxe
11-28-2005, 01:56 AM
I would welcome a new Clié, but only if Sony designed just the hardware's appearance and left the software and user interface design to another company that has a clue, like Apple. :)

Hm. I don't mind sony's software/interface. I think I like it more than apples... :D
What I love is sony's logos and stuffs. The walkman W blob, the clie lime green, the psyc series, the computer vaio. Ahh. So beautiful. Although the Apple's apple isn't bad either...
.. Who else misses the good old OT section? :'(

11-28-2005, 04:13 AM
Ha, you think. So what does that mean? :)
When I think of Sony and Software a few of things come to mind besides "poor." 1) Sonic Stage *pure unrefined vomit* and more recently Sony's Rootkit. *Trojan's welcome* :p
Sony just needs to pull its legal stick out of its arse, and take a more open and friendly approach like Apple and they could make some great products, and more importantly, fire their entire software division, or whoever makes the calls. :)

I like Verizon's logo. *Joking* It's by far one of the worst logos I've had the discomfort of vomiting on. :D But Sony does have nice design.
Ha, you think. So what does that mean? Does it mean you've not used Apples that often, or recently? :)

Sony just needs to pull its legal stick out of its arse and take a more open and friendly non-interfering approach like Apple and they could make some great products once again. But first they'll need to fire their entire software division, or at least the person making the calls. :)

Yeah some companies are terribly sad/creative with their logos...
I guess I don't use either sony nor apple that much. So it's probably better to leave this to you.
I do hate iTunes though. They're terrible.
JackAxe
11-29-2005, 10:05 PM
LOL, if you had used Sonic Stage, you wouldn't be saying that about iTunes. :D
I love iTunes, it's the best music app I've had the pleasure of using. It works great and is so intuitive and easy to use. Works wonderfully with my iPod. It rips all my CDs and plays it back. It's everything Sonic Vomit should've been. :)
Apple doesn't get in my way, they only make things easier for me, tis why I like their products like iTunes.
