View Full Version : I didn't get the NX60...

As I've mentioned before I had a TG50 but was not satisfied with it. The small screen wasn't friendly on the eyes when watching movies, there was the wavy lights on the bottom of the screen, the epileptic inducing flashing blue Bluetooth indicator and my biggest nitpick/gripe is the lack of an inline MP3 remote. I tried exchaning it at CC (past the 14 days, so PDAs have a 30 day return window) and they were super cool about it all. They didn't have the NX60 I wanted, and were charging $599 for the NX70V.

So what did I do? I drove up the road (in Tucson on the East side the CC and BB are about a mile away from each other) and checked out BB. The only NX60 they had was their beat-up floor model for $349. It was tempting, but when closed it looked like crap. That is when I noticed they had the NX70V for $499 (the NX60's old price)! So being the smart (most of the time) person I am, I picked up the NX70V for a difference of $117 including warranty. I'm excited because last year when the NX70V came out I got to try it out for a week.

I've had to chance to power up the NX70V, and I've found out I have a single dead pixel. It only shows up on really dark screens, and is visible as a blue dot on the calculator silkscreen button in tablet mode. I think I will live with it until the new NX models come out. What would you do?

The thought of exchanging TG50 to NX70V did crossed my mine, but decided to keep mine. For me the most important deciding factor is the form factor and bluetooth. TG50 satisfies on both of these ends. So I'm keeping it until Sony introduces an upgrade.

T1000X! I thought you liked your TG50!

I wouldn't want to exchange my TG50. Sure you get a bigger screen (the only feature I would use), but I would lose the backlit keyboard, the Bluetooth, and the incredible thiness of it.

I too am tempted but only because I have a really short attention span and I am already waiting for the next best thing. If the NX had bluetooth I would be all over it. I have been tempted by the NZ but I can not live with something that big. I am really beginning to understand why everyone is lusting for a 320 x 480 virtual graffiti device.

I know, I know. I did like the TG50, but once I really started to use the multimedia features of it I noticed it had some weaknesses. The small screen is okay, but for trying to watch movies or other video it was an eye sore unfortunately. When playing MP3s, the only way to change tracks was to open the screen and tap on it. I like having an inline remote now.

I will admit there are some things of the TG50 that I miss. Some of the things I miss are the small form factor, and the integrated wirless connection (Bluetooth). Sadly, I only got to use Bluetooth for a short while when a friend lent me his Bluetooth adapter. It was cool, but HotSyncing was almost as slow as using a serial connection.

You might think I'm a defector, but when Sony does come out with a TG model with a 320*480 screen I will come back. It is the screen and the joy of reading and watching movies in widescreen that I love and I've missed since selling my NR70V. I don't think I could ever use a device now that does not have a 320*480 screen or better. The extra screen real estate is worth it.

Now, if Sony does really read these boards they can see how many of us want a TG sized device with a 320*480 screen. My idea for the next Sony is a SX model that looks like an elongated SJ30 with it's nice useable buttons. It would have 64MB Internal RAM, 640*480 camera on the back, integrated Bluetooth and WiFi and an enhanced IR port. It would be only available in Gunmetal Gray with a matching metal flipcover.

Better make that a chrome case and chrome flip cover for me :)
