Will the new Motorola Rokr be too tempting to pass up?

If I were 11 or 12 years old again, I might consider the Rokr. By Junior High the Calendar function in the Treo gains importance, need to have a calculator, dictionary, take pictures... and listen to downloads.

Treo can use Pocket Tunes if you really want it to play mp3s. I already have an iPod, so when my treo comes this week it will not be used in that fashion.

I hope that thing's battery life is freaking stellar, because when I think about how much music I listen to in between classes/on the road/etc and how much I talk on the cell phone (which isn't that much, but hey, it's a decent amount), I dunno if it could last a day.

Here is an early review of the Rokr:

(BTW, just you know. I don't really think you can compare these two phone. I'm just "tweaking" JackAxe a little because I know he is a BIG iPod fan and is also considering a Treo 650. :) )

My iPod is the "perfect" music player for my needs. This ROKR just isn't compelling enough for me to want one. Plus it's only available for that Cingular company. :) I'm still on a path to purchase a Treo 650. I just didn't think it would take this long. :p

The issue is that I always need to buy two of these device, one for me and one for the laty. :) So it's always double the cost. Plus my software and hardware purchases have been a priority.

I'm hoping to have my Treo soon. :)

Plase let me chime in:
I dont have a media player and I dont want one either. a 64k Ogg satisfies my needs, and a T3 with a 512MB card stores enough Music for the longest trip!

OGG, like all other "overly" compressed formats makes my ears bleed. ;) The iPod produces really good sound, so matched with a good pair of good headphones, it's easy to hear all of the imperfections of compressed music. Tis why I only use Apple Lossless. The few CDs I have on my iPod consume 4.74 gigs.

What are the advantages of the ROKR over the W800?
I was thinking of getting the latter and just drop mp3's from iTunes into the folder.

Features:
W800>ROKR (Big time, 2mp!)

Software:
ROKR>W800 (Big time, iTunes!)

So it comes down to:
Will you need a 2mp camera, or ease?

Keep in mind that this is a cell phone camera we are talking about here, so in all likelihood a $40 hp Photosmart 1.4mp camera from eBay will have much better image quality. Both phones have a painfully slow user interface, and they both are somewhat unattractive (to me). I would not trade my Treo for either :p
It comes down to software: use the dreadful Sony WhateverGate or iTunes. Personally, I would get a non-MP3 playing phone and spend the leftover money on an iPod Nano.

2mp was more than 1.4mp last I checked :p
The camera on the W800i is better than a $40 hp Photosmart 1.4mp camera.

That's somewhat dubious reasoning there. The quality of the sensor on the dedicated camera is almost surely higher than the quality of the cell phone's sensor. Pardon me if this sounds harsh, but you saying that 2.0mp is higher than 1.4mp is like saying a $250 Gateway 7mp camera has the same image quality as a much more expensive 7mp Canon digital SLR camera. I don't mind convergence, but the camera shouldn't be the deciding factor.

Nah, I just found out that the ROKR has only 100 song capability (aka 500 megs in my library). And it is based on the E-series Moto phone, not a fan of that one.
