Memory Stick VS. Memory Stick PRO

Just got my new 512mb memory pro stick.

Compared loading a 4.5mb mapopolis map.

128mb memory stick - 28 seconds
512mb ms pro (460mb usable) - 20 seconds

I'll take any improvement I can get!!

Interesting. But almost a 30% improvement is not quite as much as I first thought you would get with a PRO.

MS Pro has a significant increase in file read, which explains why you can read the files in a shorter time.

However, it seems that both product has the same speed in file write and the increase in file create is not significant.

Unless I missed it, the actual Clie update for MS Pro isn't out yet though, right? I assume this means that we can expect even better speeds once this is released.

Definitely keep us updated in this thread -- I'm looking forward to MS Pro exactly for speeding up things like Mapopolis access so I'm very curious...

I'm not as optimistic as you are. I think the patch will be for NZ and NX only, and even there is a patch for TG the access speed will also be the same.

I would assume the access speed wouldn't increase a lot for MS Pro over regular MS in the current devices. The MS Pros have a higher possilble speed, but the hardware would need to support it. I'm not even sure if the current Clies even support the full speed of the regular MS yet. I know the last generation of Clie's didn't.

Well, we're apparently already seeing some gains with MS Pro so there must be some possible improvements possible. I'd think that any OS5 device would be able to take advantage... I can see NXes not, but surely TGs will.
