Sony does have a memorystick formatting program for windows. See if you can get Windows to format, and then format it in the handheld. BTW, I dont think you can successfully format the int. memory, but I guess it my be possible. I wouldnt try.

I dont think you read my post :( I did format it. It did not like it. I DO NOT use windows. I now cant read int media or get it back to its original state. I didnt MEAN to do this either, i was supposed to format the stick, but data import mounted my int media :(

I take it that a hard reset will not correct any formatting issues either?

Negative, nor does removing the battery :( I got card export and got a windows box to see it, but it hangs right at the end of formatting.

I think you may have removed Sony's special formatting of Int. Media. Formatting Int. Media is bad because it is like MS built-in but not exactly an MS chip. You may have to contact Sony on this one.

So wait, Robyr, if you plug it into your computer and run Data Import on the Internal Media, you don't even get the device block appearing in /dev/? Doing a dmesg don't show anything either?
Because remember, you don't have to mount it to format it. You probably already know... but just to clarify (you said, "can't even mount it in Linux anymore"), as long as the device block shows up, you should be able to reformat it.
Eg:fdisk /dev/sda
I'm guessing that this is what you meant.. but your use of the word "mount" lead me to post this just in case.

nah man, i dont even get a block device anymore, dmesg spouts some crazy errors, will get them in the morning.

I did the same thing to my internal memory. I formatted it FAT32 I think. It's been hosed for weeks and weeks now.
Robyr, can you tell me how exactly you fixed your internal memory. dmesg for mine says: "..usb device 00:0e.2-1, assigned..", which I know is bad. "cfdisk /dev/sda" returns "FATAL ERROR".
I downloaded and installed card export, but i can't quick format. windoze keeps telling me to insert a disk. I tried formatting it from a command prompt with "format /q /fs:fat i:", but that didn't work either.
Which version of card export are you using? What version of windoze are you using?
Thanks.

Linux has saved my Windows' butt numerous times. ;) :p

All i did was install Card Export 2, let it export the Int Media, and run a quick format in XP. It froze the UX, but after a reset it was all good :D

Thanks. I believe I've tried all that. I don't remember my UX locking up. Perhaps that is a good sign.. will try some more.
