Guys - I'm getting a new cellphone...and saw this one. Anyone know if the IR port will work to beam info to a Clie? Can it serve as a Modem as well?

My other thought was to pick up a used Motorola TimePort 280 from e-bay. I'm pretty sure the IR Port works as a modem on that phone....

I don't want to spend more than $100.00 for a phone, so I'm looking for biggest bang for the buck.

thanks!

Yes, the Sony T300 has an IR port that works with the Clie. I have the T300 and a T615. I can beam images from my Clie to the phone to use as screensaver/background on the phone. I can also take photos using the T300 camera, and beam the jpg files to my Clie. And finally, the T300 has a built-in modem, so I can I can use IR to have my Clie dial up my ISP and surf the web through the phone. All very cool.

Cool. One more question...can you beam contacts as well?

I never tried beaming contacts... it might work. I know I could beam contacts between my old phone (Nokia 8920) and my old Palm Vx. One thing I should mention as far as beaming photos from the phone to the Clie. The Palm OS only supports .prc and .pdb files in local memory. Therefore it won't allow you to beam a .jpg file into the Clie's local memory. I use little app called CFZap from http://www.mulliner.org/palm/cfzap.php that intercepts the beamed jpg file and directs it to your memory stick. Works like a charm.

Sure it can. I'm using S360 with T300. Pretty cool!

If anyone can tell me how to use the T300 as a modem i'd be delighted to know!

Tovilin: I used to have a T415, and i couldn't beam images (unless there was a way i didn't know about), only contacts. With the TH55, i'm beaming stuff via Clie Viewer.

You can beam contacts between phone and palm using funBOOK http://www.fun4palm.de/x4/produkte/funBOOK.asp

You can beam .jpgs from your phone to the palm if you have SplashPhoto on your palm or Receiveit (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&SID=A17E737B-7E95-2C3D-7C24A71444A293BD&PartnerREF=&prodID=52596) or JPGview (http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=software.showsoftware&SID=A17E737B-7E95-2C3D-7C24A71444A293BD&PartnerREF=&prodID=14658) they accept the beamed image and put it on the memory card, since palm does not allow you to beam photos directly into RAM (only on the memory card)

I will try to post screenshots tonight on how to set up internet access on your palm to browse the web through Infrared with your phone.

Hey guys,
Could please, tell me something about your ericsson phones.
I have T68i and I hate how slow the menu is and the receptions quality, T68i is knows of those problems. How is the T300 or T610 or T616 from your experience? Is navigating through its menus fast or does it have a slow delay a little bit? I want to switch to another phone from my T68i, but I am sort of afraid of ericssons now after my experience with t68i.

Thank you.

I tried to get my old T-300 to go on-line with my NX80V a few times with no success. I have the Kyocera slider now. I gave the T-300 to my GF.

It depends on your Service provider

Can someone please tell me if te T300 has built-in Bluetooth? The T-Mobile lady seems to insist it does and I said it didn't.

OMG, don't buy T68i, it's the worst phone I ever knew in my life!!!
Below are some reviews and valid comments from people, and I know this is true from my own experience with T68i.

"How did the T68i win the Editors Choice award?"

Pros: Feature rich. One of the first phones with Bluetooth technology.

Cons: There is a slight pause after you hit any button. And even with the keylock on, it tends to unlock itself in your pocket. Lots of accidental calls and power up/down incidents.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The problems...

1. Poor, poor signal reception: The signal reception on the Sony Ericsson is absolutely awful compared to other phones I have used. Prior to using the T68i I never missed any calls or pages. With the T68i, missed calls and pages are very common.

2. SLOW user interface: On startup, it takes at least (and I'm not exaggerating here...) 45 seconds before I can actually use the phone. And once it is up and running, button presses usually take about 3/4 to 1 second to respond. It is hard to navigate through the menus quickly because you are never quite sure when the phone is going to stop scrolling through the menus or phonebook, and you are never sure if you pressed the key you thought you did.

UGLY FEATURES.

* I would laugh before if someone told me that cell phone displays hourglass. Well, this phone has it and it really needs it. Response to almost every button click is an hourglass for up to 1 sec, before it takes you where you want. The most frustrating is a splash screen after you finished a call. Your phone is disabled for about 2 sec until it is gone!!!

If it's ANYTHING like my old T-300, it's horrible! MyT300 was DEATHLY slow. I think the T68i shares the same software. I'm using the Kyocera SE47 Slider now and it's downright turbo charged compared to the T300!

It is exactly that, horrably slow.
winexprt, do you know if T610 or T616 menus are any faster?

T610's are definitely faster. I played with one for a while. I was considering buying one but I think I'll wait for those new 700 series phones that were just mentioned on here in a news posting by Joel. Honestly though, I have never since experienced a phone as slow & sluggish as my old T300. Hope I never will again either! lol

Oh really? Because I am considering getting one, but I am sort of afraid of sony ericssons after my t68i experience. But if you say it is faster, I might go for it.

Don't worry. It's a LOT better than that P.O.S. T300.
