Hi,

I've been on holidays and I needed to connect my NX70v to a friend of mine's PC with XP to read the memory stick. When I connected it automatically read Mass storage and tried to install it, but in the end it said it was not possible (it missed the drives).

I've already seen the post here regarding that, but is way to difficult to be making all those changes in someone else's computer...

My question is: is there a way to connect the Clie to a XP windows in a way it installs like a normal Mass storage drive (directly to memory stick) or must I always carry with me the CD with the drives...

Thanks for your feedback,

RuiD

Just install the drivers for the Clie on the computer you want to use. They can be found on your install disc as SCSI Drivers or on the sonyclie.org site for download.

I mean... without the CD. If the computer where I want to install has internet I guess I can try and download them....

I guess you need to carry them on a flash drive or something them. There's no way to access it from a PC without having the necessary drivers. That's the nature of computers, sorry. :o

It's not the nature of computers, it's the nature of Sony. Practically all usb devices install automatically once you connect them. It's because of Sony's protectionistic way of doing things that they decided to make it impossible to connect without installing those drivers.
This is exactly why we have a "CF-craze" topic on this forum as well...

Also, you can have it work like a mass storage device. Use Card Export 2, then windows will see it as a generic mass storage device.

You have a buncha options:

1) Carry a Floppy/CD/USBKey with the drivers (They are tiny so you fit all OS versions even on a floppy easily)
2) Copy the Clie's ROM files and hack them to report a USB Mass Storage signature (Search for thread with instructions; Didn't work for me 'tho)
3) Buy CardExport2 from SoftTick and use that instead of MS/DataImport
