View Full Version : RAM question, maybe stupid...
Hi!
This is maybe a stupid question, but I have not found any info in the board...
It says it has a 16mb RAM AND a 16mb ROM memory... does that mean it has 32mb minus OS5 preinstalled in ROM of course, available and if one was using JackSprat one could get advantage of even more ROM space????
Am I completely wrong or what...
Please enlighten me!
cheers Nicolas

You're right, 16MB of RAM (11MB usable) and 16MB of ROM. However, if you use JakSprat or any other utility that modifies the OS or ROM you can forget ever getting any support or service from Sony.

I noticed recently that applications such as Iambic Agendus or some other apps that you use to display alarm notification at a certain time through out the day will not display the alarm unless the application resides in RAM.
in other words once I moved my Agendus to the memory stick all my meeting / todo reminders stopped popping up at the correct time (well they did not show up any more at all)
Has anyone else experienced it ?
BTW, I'm using ZLauncher...
later,

I'm not sure that you would get 32 because not all of the ROM is flashable. And anyway, Brayder hasn't updated for the NX let alone the NZ. Probably be waiting a while, if it is even possible. Bottom line: More usable RAM needed. I hate to cut into ROM with flash, but no other choice if you need space. So far, pretty stable on NR.

The 5MB is used for heap memory. Apps use this space much like programs on a PC use RAM.
