OK,
I am just about there. I have had it in my hands several times. ( I hate those anti-thef devices in the stores. I have been reading the boards for a few days and studied all the reviews. So in a nutshell:

1. Some say it is a brick that gets smaller as you use it.
2. Camera and battery life are very "reactive"
3. There is not enough RAM, but MS comes to the rescue.
4. The cradle is a bit too light.
5. Don't expect support from Sony.
6. The screen is GREAT
7. I have not seen extra batteries in the stores yet?
8. Accessories such as chargers for the NX like work.
9. It will talk to a T68i on T-Mobile.
A. The email program is ok
B. Get Jackflash
C. Get Power run
D. Most of the software on my T|T will work.
E. Does anyone use the Sony sync to outlook stuff

What am I missing?
Am I insane for spending $800?

My newbie 2 bits:

1. You'll forget about the brick thing after the 2nd or 3rd day.
2. Camera seriously affects battery life... Are you buying it for the camera?
3. Correct... not enough RAM. Keep photos and music on a MS. Non Sony branded MS's are comparably lower priced.
4. Yes. But I've gotten over the erge to carry the cradle around with me. I plan to get a portable charging cable. Checking ebay.
5. On March 31st, Sony tech's {?} told me there was no way to surf the internet using a cell phone connection and no plans were in the works to implement this. Sounds official doesn't it? Wrong!!
6. Screen... Wonderful
7. I believe Circuit City in Phila. had the batteries.
8. Not sure.
9. T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T, whatever. Get Mobile Connection Wizard from Sony (free) http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/clie/conwiz/softupdates/index.html It produces all the necessary configuration settings based on your phone type. D'load the settings into Clie... Surf away.
A. Email is Email.
B. Not familiar with Jackflash.
C. " " " Power Run.
D. Got me again.
E. I sync with outlook regularly for contacts (Names, numbers and stuff), Calender (appointments), Notes and To Do's.

It's a good kind of Insane though.

Thanks for the reply. The camera is just a good thing to have on it. Not an everyday need. I did not see the battery on CC web site. When I go there today I will ask. A spare might be a good buy...

ke9a - you'd be suprised how much you find you need a camera when you have one (of good quality like the NZ's) on your person all the time. :)

Ke9a,

Here are my thoughts:

1> Very true... I don't notice it at all anymore. I actually find it less bulky than the PPC Handheld h5455!

2> Charge it WELL!!!!!!!!!! Don't shortcut your charging. There are some posts out here.. where people did nothing but snap pics... to 'break in the battery'..... you might want to look through them. I, normaly, can go 3 days between charges if I'm not using my camera (no BT use no WiFi Use either).

3> True.. only 11mb out of the 16 available. Definately needa MS.

4> The cradle is 'crap'. careful when you place the handheld into the cradle... it has a tendancy to move side-to-side. Ensure the PDA inset holes at the bottom of it Seat themselves in the little feet at the bottom of the cradle.

5> Why use Sony Support..... we are all here!!!!!!!! :)

6> Very Nice screen with great colors. I think the Screen is better than the h5455, but I do think the h5455 has a little better colorization.

7> I haven't either... but I haven't looked for a couple weeks. I haven't found it truely necessary to need one as of yet.

8> Yep Yep

9> I don't know..... about Tmobile phones. But I know it works with the Sony Ericsson T68i for AT&T Wireless ... so I would think it would work with Tmobile.

a> I dunno... .don't use it as of yet

b> I sure would. Great way to free up memory. You must buy the older version... and once registered.. you can go to their website to d/l the BETA Version for the NZ.

c> I would recommend getting it. Nice way to be able to free up some more ram and get programs to execute from the MS. There are those programs which won't easily move over from RAM to the MS.... and PowerRun does give this for most programs.

d> I would think the software on your TT would work on the Clie. Both have OS5 ..... so I'm not sure why it wouldn't work.

e> I use it to sync with outlook. I use my NZ here at work... and at home. Here at work I have it sync with outlook for all calendar/addresses/memos/tasks. When I sync at home... it uses the Palm Software.

Once you get it... you will wonder why you bought the TT ... LOLOLOL.... I think it is well worth the $$$$$$$$ :)

about the TT/NZ90 compatibily in software i'm not sure, but if some programs is made to work on TT's resolution (320*320 as compared to 320*420 of nz90) might not work, but i'm not sure, i haven't tested

Item F: the Mondo Cool factor of the NZ. These days, having merely a PDA hardly impresses the neighbors, but the NZ is still getting stares. :)

Don't forget also... to get the COLORIZE application.... gives you a more color.. for your menus and backgrounds of applications running..... It is just like Windows. When you go into DISPLAY/APPEARANCE. You can select different color schemes. Same with The Colorize application ....... free at www.palmgear.com

If you get the Z90, you won't look back if you are like me. I love mine.

The battery seems to get better readings and last longer after about 10 cycles, at least that is what I am finding.

Thank god for power run!!!!

The only problem I have had is when I first tried to hot synch it and transfer my applications when I first got it. I got three fatal exceptional errors because of the memory. Even when I used a back up stick. Finally figured out how to get around it by just reinstalling everything from scratch. Maybe that was the hard way to do things but it was the only way I could do it and not have a fatal error.
The one thing I don't like about the cradle is it seems filmsy when you are putting the pda on it.

I also have found that some adaptors don't seem to fit into the plugin. I got a car charger for it on ebay and had to return it because it would not fit into the hole.

Just got a second battery, don't know why since there is no way to charge it and the other one at the same time. Sony needs to come up with a second charger unit like IPAQ has so you can use one battery and charge the second one.

The screen is great I have yet to run the backlight much over the lowest setting and I need a brighter screen.

I am still trying to get an answer back from SOny support on how to use the printer feature. Can't find anything in the manual. All I see are Epson printer drivers which is no help for me. So I asked them how you get the NZ90 to print after you plug it in, do you have to install drivers, is there a specific application you ahve to use, etc. Still waiting for an answer!!

I use the case my IPAQ came in which is a nylon flip cover one and it fits nicely.
If you figure in the price of a comparable pda without a camera and the price of a 2 megapixal camera, the NZ90 is a good deal.

It is a great toy for genealogists!!!!!!!

Now if we could get them to use the card reader speace that is empty on US models to put in a game pad it would be ideal all the way around.

LONG LIVE THE NZ90, LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a quick heads up on the backup battery availability. I saw an entire row of them at my local best buy on Tuesday. I'm still debatingwhether to buy one for my new nz. Is there a charger for the batteries??

Even better, forget using a cell phone for internet access and share your high speed at home...the NZ is the best so far but the cutting edge leaves Sony tech support (and others )behind.

The spare batteries are the same ones that are in your NZ90 1200. There is no charger available. You have to take the one that is already in your NZ90 and replace with the new one and let it charge that way.

That is what I indicated before that I hope Sony would follow the lead of IPAQ and make a seperate charger.

Thanks, I have to get some software first.. and a case...

So far this is a good PDA. Have to setup the dialer for GPRS web surfing. Got SMS running fine.

Bummed out that my symbol 802.11 card did not work. IT is the same as the Sony. Mabye a reflash or something.

Took one picture, good stuff..

Really do need PQAs.

I think I might get Avantgo back up and running for quick news.

Have to decide if Jack Flash is worth it.
