I know that the two devices aren't exactly identical, but I'm really tempted by the supposed specs of the Tungsten C.
64mb RAM
320x320 Transflective Screen
Built In WiFi
Thumbboard
5-way Navigator
The RAM is a major plus. If it really has 64mb when it's released, I may actually buy it.
This seems like the only Palm device that would compete directly with the TG50... What do all you TG50 fans think of it?

I think the TG50 competes with the TT and if this new palm really has that much ram, an improved TG60 is sure to come out by sony, which will then compete with this new Tungsten

Add 400 mghz Xscale  processor to that list.
Oh and $100 over the price of the TG.

I had a Tungsten W for about a week before I wanted to bash it into a million pieces. Why on earth Palm decided to not use a backlit keyboard in beyond me. Once the lights dim the device is a paper weight. From what I have read and seen the C does not have a backlit keyboard. Unless you live in Alaska for half of the year you are really going to be upset when this sad fact dawns on you.

It's probably twice as thick as out TG's.

Isn't it 320x320 ?
If it's anything like the Tungsten/W, it may be a /bit/ thicker than the TG, but it will also be lighter. Then again, it would also have the same plasticky feel, compared to the slightly heavier, but nice rugged metallic look and feel of the TG.
Regardless, the upcoming Tungsten still doesn't seem to have a backlit keyboard. I agree with the earlier post. I used to think the backlit keyboard was a nice to have. It's not. It's a have-to-have.
Speaking of what I consider to be a have-to-have, how about the jodgial? Ever since the first Clie (the under-appreciated PEG 300), I was hooked and knew I could never have another Palm without it. The little circular navigator on the Tungstens is definitely an improvement over an up and down arrow, but still falls short of the ergonomically superior jogdial because of its poor placement. When I scroll down long enough with a Tungsten, the palm of my hand starts to cramp, and I feel like I'm not holding the pda high enough and could drop it. I don't know why they put the wheel so near the bottom, furthest away from the thumb when holding it with one hand. The easiest fix would have been to just put the dial above the keyboard instead of below it. Only then would it compete ergonomically with the jogdial.
As for the pricetag, this is not an issue for me because I would definitely use the built in wifi, which to me justifies the price difference.
But without a backlit keyboard, sorry Charlie. And with the navigator so ergonomically inconvenient, no way Jose!
Get a backlit keyboard and move the navigator between the screen and the keyboard, and then we'll talk about a product that seriously competes with the TG. Until then, and not a moment before, the TG has no competition to me.

The Tungsten W/C also uses that stupid Palm flip cover which adds too much thickness to an already too thick PDA. I agree with JoeT, the TG has no competition. Now if you gave me a Tungsten T with a hide away Keyboard instead of a graffiti area I would jump all over it in a heartbeat!

This is so Photoshopped it makes me sick. Look at the area in the center top of the Palm. Looks like the person messed up and left it that way. And oh ya....Palm OS 5.3? Come on dude at least make it say OS 5.2 so we might believe it for at least a second

That is incredibly photoshopped plus it says it has a 160x160 screen resolution. That information must be wrong, even Palm wouldn't give it that low of a resolution.

absolutely, even tungsten |W which is palm os 4.1 device has got 320x320 screen and it would be more then stupid having just 160x160 resolution on such a device (let's face it 400mhz cpu, 64mb !!! ram, wifi ..)
no way, however the formfactor could match the tungsten | W ..
btw. have noticed that most of new pda's do have thumboard ?
i guess the reason is the popularity of rim devices among businessmans => and this success of rim could possible be rim's end ?
because if some businessman look at TG50 and RIM, which one do you think he will pick ?
RIM .. of course not ;)
and even the thumboard might be another reason for skyrocketed sales of palm devices over pocket pc devices ?
i would be kinda funny the palm first success was due to graffity input :D
but imho it just because the manageres are afraid of "learning" graffity and thumboards are just fine ..
just my $0.03 (2c + tax :D)

SNM,
How do you figure that? The TG50 is 5.0 by 2.8 inches. It is .6 inches thick with its integrated flipcover closed, or .5 inches with it open, and it weighs 6.5 ounces. The T|C according to reports from brighthand (http://brighthand.com/article/RumorMill_Palm_Preparing_Mid-Range_High-End_Models) will be 4.5 by 2.9 by .7 inches and weighs 5.3 ounces! Thus the T|C will be only .1 inches thicker than the TG50 if these figures are correct!!

I just installed a 802.11a network.
Anyone know how/if T/C's wifi can work with an 802.11a network?
Thanks.
