My wife and I both have Clies and would like to share a DateBook. Is it possible for both of us to HotSync the same DateBook??

Any advice is appreciated.

then all our files would be identical and we don't want all the same stuff on our Clies just to share the Datebook, or maybe addressbook. I think if we HotSync ubnder the same name the desktop will try to install files it thiks are missing from one or the other of our handhelds....won't it???

Raddude,

Did you already find a solution? I also like only to share the datebook with my wife.

There's a free program called "dual date" from PalmSource which lets you view two people's datebook entries on one screen.

Get it here

Because both me and my wife own a Palmtop we like to share our calendar on both devices. While surfing the web I could not find a suitable solution, however some programs (like Dual Date, Wesync, Syncus) seem to be able to do most of the job.

The fact is that in Palm Desktop every user has his own datebook-directory and also his own datebook-database. The solution should be that Palm Desktop AND the Hotsync Manager will use one common datebook-database for all users. This can be done by modifying the Windows register:

1. Close down the Hotsync Manager
2. Create the following directory: c:\program Files\palm\Sdatebook
(In this directory the common datebook-database will be created lateron when synchronizing)
3. Open Regedit
4. Go to My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\Component0
5. Change the value of the Directory-key from 'datebook' to '..\Sdatebook'
(The Hotsync manager will sync the common database (in the Sdatebook directory) for every user)
6. Go to My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop\UiModule0
7. Change the value of the Directory-key from 'datebook' to '..\Sdatebook'
(For every user the Palm Desktop will show the items from the common datebook-database)
8. Close down regedit
9. Start up the Hotsync Manager
10. Synchronize the concerned palmtops one after the other

That's all

The result is that every user will use (and can change) the same common datebook items, while keeping all other adjustments and programs seperated.

Note: I think that the same change could be made with the adress book.

Regedit (register editor) is a Windows application used for changing the windows register. You can start Regedit by pressing "start"; then choosing "run"; type in "regedit" and press "OK".

Although I'm sure that this procedure works, you might want to make a copy of your original datebook-database before starting.
