View Full Version : Palm for Wife

I am trying to drag my wife kicking and screaming into the technological age!

I would like to get her a palm so that she stores her diary electronically and hopefully we can share each others diary via .mac.

She would need a hardy PDA - to protect it from lipstick, blusher and fits of unexplained rage.

But most importantly she would like a thin, small palm.

Unlike 'us chaps' she doesn't need it to be technologically special and would need the bare minimum in terms of memory as she would be using it mainly as a diary/address book.

I have been looking at the Zire's, but I am concerned about the small screen.

Any suggestions?

I would take a look at the Zire71. It does everything you need and includes a low quality .3MP camera just for fun. It sounds like it'll suit her needs and they aren't very expensive now that it has been replaced by the 72. The Tungsten|E has audio capability, a 320x320 color screen, minus the camera. If she doesn't need a speaker (video, music, etc.), perhaps a TJ25/27 would do. If she really doesn't need anything but what you said, the Zire21/31 are about the only ones (that you can still purchase).

I would recommend the E2 because it has NVFS, meaning that data will not be erased if the battery is drained. I would also like to recommend HandyShopper (freeware) so that she can keep all her lists.

I am also worried about her ability to use graffiti

At least with the T5 she will have the option of a keyboard whilst she is getting used to graffiti.

Plus the NVFS will mean that she won't blame me when her diary goes missing because she forgot to charge it!

Does anyone out there have any experience with wives/girlfirends/significant others using palms?

I am sorry if this all sounds rather patronising, but my wife has a very 'workman' like grasp of computing at best!

I purchased a Zire72 for my wife. I loaded family pictures into a memory card, copied contacts & important family dates from my Tungsten C. Then I showed her how she can color code her calendar & to-do lists. It was the color coding that did the trick! She has had a new lover ever since.

The Z72 could be a good choice, its got a camera, and girl's like to catch all that girly stuff so they'll have it forever  :o.....

I think you're better off not forcing it on your wife. If she's not the type, she's not the type, and you're likely just wasting a couple hundred bucks (sans eBay).

Or, if she doesnt like it, you could use it as a back up? hehe

I would just offer to my blonde a Zire 31. its good enough for her...she will be pretty happy with it...like he said.. she is not technological. ZIRE 31 is the best choice ever

the zire 31 is simple enough for her but the E2 would prevent the inevitable battery drain and would be a better solution for her.

Another thought is to find a Treo and see if she likes the accessiblity and keypad. If so, that would work better as she would have more usage for her palm if she could look up directions to the people in her phone book who owe you money :)

Or the T|C if you can find one, a little cheaper...

Did anyone else read the title of this and think "Wi-Fe? Is that some new protocol?" or was it just me?

Does she want a PDA/Cell phone?

If not. Get a PEG-TG50 Sony Clie and a W800i Sony Ericsson

We have wifi at home, not sure she would want to use it, may be to do email whilst at home?

It really is bizarre the way palm steadfastly refused to put dual wireless in their PDAs until the LD.

Perhaps I should wait and see if they release a dual wifi version of the Tungsten?

Wi-Fe protocol - similar to wifi in that one can swap information to an from it, but unlike wifi you can hear it.

If she'd only want to check email, you could get her a Bluetooth PDA (TG50) and a Bluetooth cell.(the W800i sounds nice , and I like anything with i[*cough* Mac *cough*] in it :)

And supposedly the next Tungsten will have the dual wireless. And I'm sure the next Mobile Manager will have both...
