I recently bought a SJ22, and I love it. I also purchased 4 128 meg Memory Sticks, and the Clie doesn't recognize any over them when I insert them. The orange LED briefly flashes when I'm inserting it, but nothing after it clicks into place. They are original Sony Memory Sticks.
Any suggestions? I can read them fine with my sony laptop.
Thanks!

Assuming you have already done a hard reset, it certainly sounds like the MS interface slot on your SJ22 is broken. Keep us posted if you make any progress. Do you know if the unit had any previous damage? Can you contact the seller to find any history of it?

Does the SJ22 recognize the memory sticks after a hard reset? If not, I would agree with tgeorges that you likely have a physical problem with the MS slot. If you have to send it in for repair, you can start the process online at http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select-system.pl?PRODTYPE=4,17

do a search in these forums for " memory stick broken" - there are many threads here that cover some home repair things you can do - including pressing on the back of the cover - that worked for me last month when my SJ33 wouldn't recognize the MSs - all the way to opening up the shell

I had a similar problem of partial recognition of a Memory Stick. My Clié PEG-SJ22 could determine that a Memory Stick was inserted but could not ID it, read or write to it. The LED indicator light on the Memory Stick did not flash upon insertion. I found a bent pin in the Memory Stick slot. Diagnosis and repair info: Hold the door of the Memory Stick slot open with the stylus. Shine a bright light down into the slot. At the far end you should see ten gold connector pins that all look the same, pointed toward you. If any looks different, (usually, sticking up at a right angle to the others), it is bent and not making contact, or maybe shorted out against the wall of the slot. The slot assembly of the SJ22 is a separate part, attached to the main printed circuit board with a flexible printed-circuit plug-in cable. I don't know yet whether I can get a replacement part from Sony -- and Sony's repair service costs more than replacing the PDA -- but broken PDAs show up frequently on EBay, and sell at a low price. To replace the slot assembly yourself or have a technician do it, first Hotsync the Clié to back it up. Detach the battery. Separate the two halves of the shell (6 tiny Phillips-head screws around rim) and separate the main printed circuit board from the chassis (5 more screws which are slightly different -- don't mix up two types of screws). The slot assmbly can now be lifted out and unplugged, by sliding its flexible printed circuit cable out of the receptacle on the main board; reverse steps to install a slot assembly. Be careful -- if you aren't sure you can manage this, find someone who can: this is delicate work!
