Here are some ideas related (some loosely) to the LifeDrive which I hope Palm or third parties will create (if they haven't been already). While I'm somewhat tech-savvy, I have no background in the electronics or IT industries and have no clue how to do them myself. So I hope someone else takes the challenge of implementing the following ideas:
Hardware ideas:
-harddrive integrated with RAM (Not just a partition on the harddisk but actually solid state flash memory inside the case with the harddrive. Prepackaging the two together might improve performance, reduce manufacturing costs and free up room inside the device.)
-external snap on Li Ion battery for LifeDrive
-SD TV antenna with recording software for Palm OS
-SD 2 mp camera/video camera for Palm OS (and maybe built-in memory if not too costly)
-SD card with USB port and drivers for connecting directly with other devices like keyboards, cameras, iPods, or USB flash drives
-different back casing for LifeDrive that allows for a replaceable battery (given the proper molds/dies, this would be easy)
Software ideas:
-a Palm OS application for recording video from an outside source such as digital cable via the USB cord
-a Palm OS file compression/zipping application
-a Palm OS app for recording from an SD FM receiver
-a Palm OS virtual Windows app for opening small .exe files (...and no I'm not moving to a Pocket PC or handtop. It would just be nice to download and run self-extracting programs.)
-Palm OS voice to text software
-a small app to keep LifeDrive power on while charging (somehow some apps do this, just make it LD wide. Prefs app has option for keeping LD on while charging but it doesn't work...at least not on my LD)
-LifeDrive internet connection over USB cable or BT to PC (where you don't have admin rights) on a LAN or with broadband (because it would be nice to have personal email at work where there's no WiFi)
-software to sync LifeDrive inbox, contacts, calendar and tasks to Mozilla Thunderbird and Sunbird....especially Portable Thunderbird and Portable Sunbird (another way to get personal email at work)
-anti-virus/firewall/spyware software suite (with WiFi and Bluetooth you never know)
What other software or hardware ideas would you like developed?
Carl.
