View Full Version : Will you buy a Game Boy Micro?

Well it's official, the GB Micro will be released in September for around 100 dollars US.

You going for it?

Personally, I already own an NES Edition GBA/SP, and only use it because GBA emulation isn't up to scratch on the PSP yet.

However.

This thing is teeny tiny, so taking it with isn't anything like the hassle of the PSP, especially for some casual gaming.
I'm also a Game Boy fan from when the original was released, and prefer poratbles to home consoles.

So what it means is that I will probably get one, and NES skin it.

I'm getting a black one, (They have that color correct?) but it will be more of an impulse buy. My DS has been excellent for GBA games because it is easy to hold and the screen look so nice. But tiny is tooo cool to pass up.

I tried SNES emulation on a PSP, it wasn't doing so hot either.

Yeah, but have you tried carrying on of THOSE around? :D :D

I like the black GBA/M, but I have to have the NES version.
(I just hope I can scale that graphic properly to do my own if need be!)

JackAxe
08-18-2005, 08:17 AM
Nope, wouldn't want to carry one of those around. But, when I was younger I did haul my SNES with a 5" CRT to my friend's place just to play Street Fighter 2. :)

I just want black, or real metal. This plastic platinum stuff has always bugged me.

The GBA micro would be a great companion to my GCN since the DS doesn't have any wired connectivity. It has interchangeable faceplates!

Edit: What is this? It appears that the Micro has a different connector than the GBA. Go here and look at the 3D view.

Yes for both. Wifi via an adapter, Bluetooth via a cartridge that contains apps that take advantage of it, like the ability to browse the web. Now this is just silly in my book.

But why does this stuff matter for a personal tiny-incy-bincy GBA that has absolutely the best game selection for portables on the market?

I'm gonna definitely pass on those. My handheld is way more powerful than those things, and for the most part, has very good and similar games!

Same goes for my wife. She absolutely LOVES her zodiac2, and she just purchased a couple of game cards that were made specifically FOR the zodiac. Good thing she did, as they're getting rare at CompUSA.

But short end is: Don't need to get yet another device to load out our belts. LOL ... But also, it'd be rather redundant. /shrug/

Why does it matter?! LOL ....
Because we're POWER USERS! WE'RE THE GEEKS OF THE GEEKS! Everyone looks up to us and cringes at our technical prowess between the silicon plates!

Or maybe not. :-)

Besides, as I posted abvoe, it's a redundant unit in so far as what I use devices such as them for inthe first place. so I won't be throwing out my money for something like that.

Hee hee, I didn't see the second page, so now I shall answer according. :)

A Zodiac may have more power, but it can't play GBA games since the OS isn't up to it. :p So how would a tiny incy-bincy GBA be redundent, since it does something your Zodiac2 can not? :)

There be no 1, or 2, or 3, or vomit, just SP. :)

To kill some boredom when you go back to school, I recommend a GBA Micro and Zelda The Minnish Cap.

There must be some kind of emulator for the gameboys...
Ah yes, there is one. Hit me if I am wrong, but I beleive its name is Firestorm GBA or so. So why should I get a GBA?

JackAxe
08-20-2005, 05:24 PM
I didn't know they had a GBA emulator for Palm; Cool, but as usual not practical.

http://www.crimsonfire.com/firestorm/ (When searching for it, I read that it is no longer being updated.)

Hmmm, why carry around a real GBA, if you would like to play "GBA" games... Hmmmmmmmm; :)

-For one the performance is a "pathetic" 50-60% of the real GBA.

-Compatibility is only 75-80%

-The controls are downright horrid on Palm devices, most of them don't even have enough buttons. Only the Zodiac2 is worthy of a GBAs controls.

-Oh, and here's a really really really important one; It's "illegal" to download and possess GBA ROMs.

So if you want to play GBA games, then buy either a DS, GBA, GBA SP, GameCube with Gameboy player, or for convinience a GBA Micro. (It's tiny enough to carry along with your palm.) The alterantive is shoddy to poor performance, and controls that generally suck. Only another Nintendo portable can truly replace a GBA.

And if you can afford a PDA, you can afford a GBA. ;)

<]=)

and controls that generally suck

We with Clies have the option of a game controller

JackAxe
08-20-2005, 07:24 PM
You mean this controler; :p

http://www.bainne.com/fun/clie-controller.jpg

It sucks compared to holding a real GBA and more so when compared to a DS, and it's "MISSING" the "L" and "R" buttons. :p

It's good for Columns though, just baaaaad for GBA games. :)

**Oh, I forgot about the XY button, but still it sucks. :)

<]=)

dragonsgames
08-20-2005, 07:28 PM
Yeah, isn't as good as a GBA, but is better than Palm Hardbuttons :D

I am still not getting a Micro, it is its price that drives me away. It should be about $50, and it would sell much better

T-Man
08-20-2005, 07:30 PM
I'll never get a handheld 'console', just a handheld handheld :)

JackAxe
08-20-2005, 07:40 PM
Handhelds are handy, but are lacking in the "good" game area. :)

Yep, the hardbuttons truly suck, and that definitely falls under general Palm controls. :) Sony could've probably placed a control pad and buttons right below the keyboard on my Clié and that would've been really cool.

$50 would be awesome, I'm sure Nintendo will evenutally drop it to that price, but probably not until the the next gen GameBoy is released. Just get one, or better yet, save for a DS. :)

JackAxe
08-20-2005, 08:47 PM
Bummer.

There are some great games on the GBA like The Minish Cap. With about a billion titles, there's bound to be something to your likening. :)

<]=)

strider_mt2k
08-21-2005, 09:16 AM
Looks like it won't support the old GBC abd GB carts though.

Bummer.

Even if I don't really play em anymore, backwards compatability in the Game Boy realm has been standard up until now.
(The DS is by name and definition NOT a Game Boy.)

JackAxe
08-21-2005, 04:45 PM
I've beem reading about this and there are a couple of reasons why Nintendo probably didn't include older GB(C) support with the DS and now the GBA M; Apparently a seperate Z80 processor is required, which in turn takes up more space. Also the older carts are on a 5v, where as the newer carts, including the DS(If the info was correct.) are 3.3v.

YEP, I know the DS is "not" a Gamboy. I even mentioned a next gen GameBoy in my earier post.

Anyway, I have some old GC carts like Dragons Quest 1-2, and the Capcom Zeldas that I never finished. I can play them in my GameBoy player for my GameCube, but would rather play them on my DS. My only alternative is to buy either a SP, or a GBA/DS Flash cart combo and dump the roms and then run them through emulation on my DS. Grumbles. I was hoping the GBA-M could do so without emulation.

<]=)

JackAxe
08-21-2005, 06:28 PM
Ok, this is frustrating; The black face plate is only sold with the silver GBA-M, where as the Black GBA-M comes with a silver faceplate.

Why does Nintendo always F* up the color selection on their consoles... I would like an all black one, not lame plastic platinum/silver.

Well hell Nintendo, I'm buying one. Im gullable, very grullable. :D

Here (http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/micro/micro-early-handson-impressions-122383.php) are some first impressions of the Micro and and the people over at Kotaku seem to like it. I want to see the battery life, and how it connects to other Nintendo things, other than the old GBA connectivity. Maybe Nintendo can make a camera for it like they did with the old Nintedo Gameboy, that would be cool. Ahh, me the Princess, Mario, and Yoshi all in the same picture, one can dream :D :p

It looooks sooo nice. I would like to see the screen in person. The GBA games on my DS are just tad smaller than a GBA cart's width.

I'm still on the impulse buy for this thing. I would like to pick up a couple to play Chrystal Chronicles on my GC, but I'm not sure that game will be worth $200. Plus buying to more GBAs won't go over well with the laty.

Camera, we don't need not stinking camera. :p
