T-Man

JackAxe is finding the loopholes and puking, abid is too happy, and Dragonsgames is getting my hopes up :D

@DG: What about your friend who has an Xbox?

dragonsgames
08-16-2005, 10:22 AM
I don't know much about XBox. What is Gamertag? All he does is play Halo 2 all day on XBox live :D

T-Man
08-16-2005, 01:30 PM
A GamerTag is like your Xbox Live 'username'(known as a 'gamertag'), like your username on here. My Halo 2 friends list is full, so I'll have to get rid of someone... I'm TigerTimm on XBL. Does he ever come on here?

Xbox LIVE (https://www.xbox.com/en-us/live/default.htm)

JackAxe

A GamerTag says that you enjoy playing craperific "lo-rez" on-line games with a controler that suckfies any FPS to death. It also says Microsoft has you in their pocketbook. :p But if you're having fun, then paying a monthly fee to play a lo-rez and pixelated game on-line with such a horrid FPS controler, is fine. :)

<]=)

dragonsgames
08-16-2005, 04:15 PM
Is Halo on GamerTag? It isn't "lo-rez"

T-Man
08-16-2005, 04:51 PM
^^^huh???

@JAx: Yeah, whatever. And its a yearly fee for me. BTW, if you play on the internet with a Playstation, you'll think yuo were on AOL ;) Payment=95% of the people that play have fast connections|Free=LLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

@DG: You're right none of the series is lo-res ;) Halo is an offline only game. Halo 2 is playable on Xbox Live. And if you get a Gamertag, you can play with others on XBL. So, you gonna give me your friend's Gamertag? ;)

dragonsgames
08-16-2005, 04:52 PM

T-Man
08-16-2005, 04:58 PM
PS fanboys...its such a bad way to start out! :D

JackAxe
08-16-2005, 08:45 PM
Ha ha, you think I would degrade myself to Playstation for on-line play, especially for FPS games. *LOL* :D

Halo and Halo2 are definately "lo-rez." I haven't had to suffer through pixelated crap like that on my PC since the mid to late ninties. When the Xbox came out, I was playing games like Unreal Tournament at 1280x1024. Even most HD televisions are lo-rez, especially all of the plazmas. :)

I use "real" computers for on-line games. For FPS game over the internet or Lan, you just can't be a real computer. The hi-rez screen and mouse are so much better than a lame controller for these types of games. ;)

Here's a screen shot of Call of Duty on my Apple HD 30" LCD. Note that COD doesn't support my native rez of 2560x1600, but only 2048x1536, which still makes all consoles, even the newer ones vomit in there place from shear jealousy. :p (My Dual proc Mac with a 6800U plays this game fast and smoothly at full rez and detail.)

Behold!!! (http://www.bainne.com/fun/30_inch/Hi_Rez_COD.png)

I unfortanetely have to say that doesnt look to bad. :( But not everyone has a PowerMac. Heres a deal, you buy me the $3000 PowerMac, and I'll forget about other consoles. :D (I thought so... :p)

@DG: Ask your friend what his Gamertag is someday, he'll know what it is, and can probably explain it better since you'll see it (And you better love it!!! :))
(I'm listening to a XB360 podcast :)

Here are some screen shots of Warcraft 3, one of my all time favorite on-line games. This sort of game, RTS would suck on any console, mainly because of their hideous controls. It was all of the "mods" that made this game so great.

These are 2560x1600 in size;

Again, not too bad. I, personally, cannot use keyboards! I tried playing a Halo demo on PC before, and there was no way I'd do that forever. I need some sort of controller (not a mouse) For Filght Simulator: Joystick|Midtown Madness 2: Steering wheel. And thats all I've ever played anything else on a PC. (But maybe the Mac in the future :))

Once you get into light and all the purdy effects, it looks awesome. Especially in motion.

But you don't need $3K to buy a PC with a 7800 that will literally make the X360 tremble in it's Media Center place. :)

And why would you buy a game console wannabe / media-center, when Microsoft has already stated they're going to offer newere and "better" versions over the next 5 years? At least if you buy a PS3, you'll only need to buy once. Imagine buying a first rev X360, then in 2 years not being able to play the lates game, because it only supports the newer X360. Or if you wanted to take advantage of that game's enhanced features, you would need to upgrade your X360. Now in my book, since these are merely consoles, that is lame. A console should last about 4-6 years before needing to be replaced, not 1 or 2.

T-Man

So, what about the PowerMac deal??? ;)

T-Man
08-16-2005, 09:19 PM
Tell M$ that! Apparently they can make one OS last 4-6 years  Just look at XP...

T-Man
08-16-2005, 09:20 PM
I still specifically want the PM3k one. I want it to last me 4-6 years :p

A keyboard and mouse for a FPS offers the fastest and most precise control. A thumb-stick like on a XBox is only nice for relaxing, it's simply too slow and unaccurate when compared to the above combo. I wouldn't use a mouse for a flight game either, I use an analogue joystick. All the games I've played on the PC that go from a FP to a vheicle support all input devices. So I can grab my joystick when driving a jeep. You can buy a steering wheel for the PC. Computers have always had the largest and best selection of game input devices.

The screen alone was $3K. I saved about a grand though, because I'm an Apple developer, but it's still wasn't cheap. My comps last me about 4 years. :)

<]=)

dragonsgames
08-16-2005, 09:33 PM
I'm a Apple developer, too. I have all my time I have in my game (and on 1src).

Cool. I would like to develop some Mac games, but I'm an ADC for the hardware discount. :D Maybe next year. I'm going to start tinkering with XCode again, I've only tried it wtih a GBA SDK I was fiddling around wtih the other year.

T-Man
08-16-2005, 09:54 PM
Well, thats good to know.(@ the Mac first part) How could you have lost the old version? When getting a new iBook?

dragonsgames
08-16-2005, 09:58 PM
No. I installed a bad program on my old iBook, and I lost all my data. It didn't work with Mac OS X.3, and it ran on every program. I forget to transfer my game when I backed up my data :(

I backed up an older version :(

T-Man

A Skunk? That is a cat... Don't know why it would be a skunk, beside the white and black.

Do you have a cat? It has cat ears and eyes and paws.

T-Man
08-16-2005, 10:43 PM
^^^I know, I was kidding :p But its a weird looking cat because of the darkness...BTW, I have 4 :) well, they're not all mine, but theres 4 living in the house, not to mention 2 that come to our house and live outside

JackAxe

Your Mac isn't very productive. My Macs are currently solving the problem of world hunger. I networked them together with some string and told them to do so. I figure they should have a solution for me soon. I upgraded my Powerbooks speed by putting a sticker on it, so it must be faster. My G5 is fast because it's tall. My old G4 is really fast tooo, I waxed it for the extra speed.

So, what is an XBox Live Gamertag anyway?

I KNEW I recognized yar flea-bitten dog from when ye used to sail the seven seas on yar pirate ship in the 'ol Talk like a pirate thread.

Now ye be havin' cute kitties as yer avatar. :p

:D

JackAxe
08-18-2005, 06:39 PM
Arrrr, ye don't want a XBox gamertag. It's something that only a land lubber would want.

Yep, that was me dog "Scurvy." :)

ArRr..eeerr.. Arr, That not be a kitty. It be a viscous lion, the same lion that ripped off me leg, it just happens to be small cute and cudly.

I've been working on a new pirate sketch, I just needs to paint it. :)

@Gizmo: A GamerTag is something everyone normal wants when they find out what it is :) Its like your username(Like Gizmo is on 1SRC), except on Xbox LIVE (https://www.xbox.com/en-us/live/default.htm)

JackAxe
08-18-2005, 09:00 PM
Then how come so many of us don't want one... :p :D

I predicted that, but now I've got proof :D ;)

JackAxe

Sorry then :)

JackAxe
08-19-2005, 12:46 AM

<]=)

T-Man
08-19-2005, 01:19 AM
That, looks freaky

Halo: yes, of course
:)

JackAxe
08-19-2005, 04:02 AM
Halo..... Halo...... Oh what a fun FPS. I've moved on. :)

I'm going to buy that freaky game for my PC, or just buy it for the PS2 and play it on the PS3 when it comes out. Anyways, the main peep behind that game, was behind games like Monkey Island and Day of Tenacle. Great games if haven't playe them. You can play them with ScummVM on the Clié.

<]=)

JackAxe
08-19-2005, 06:55 AM
So T-Man, have you downloaded this "lame" widget? (http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/games/countdowntoxbox360.html) :p

<]=)

T-Man
08-19-2005, 10:44 AM
 How could I have missed that!!! I searched thru the widgets when I first got my PB! It took me no longer than 10 seconds to get it on my dashboard :)

BTW, I like realistic games, sci-fi, and futuristic games. Like the Halos and Midtown Madnesses. I dont like the games where you play as animals, or whetever else you can name... Is there a Midtown Madness 2 Mac version???

(Allthough, I did amazingly play the Shrek games sometime ago, but its all Halo now  )

Timm

T-Man
08-19-2005, 10:45 AM
Halo..... Halo...... Oh what a fun FPS. I've moved on. :)
<]=)

<T-man looks at JackAxe with evil, squinted eyes>

<]=/ (:D)

JackAxe
08-19-2005, 02:52 PM
Yep, moved on. :)

Halo, realistic... MuhahaaaaHaahahaaaaaaaaaa. :D Well it is realy repetitive, and life does get like that sometimes. Ok, I only find that humerous since Halo was just another FPS dumbed down for the console. But like I said, it was fun. But there are better games out there now.

Anyways, if you want futuristic and Sci-Fi, holy pooooh, let me introduce you to absolutely one of the all time best games of this genre. Actually one of the best games of all times...

BEHOLD!!! (http://www.ttlg.com/ss1/)

Now it's an older game, so it looks like pooh compared to the new flashy-no-substance vomit that plagues all of our current consoles, but it more than makes up for it with a innovation and substanance and just the sheere amout of detail that was put into it. An amazing game and as of now still has no equal.

<]=)

JackAxe
08-19-2005, 02:58 PM
Here's another link;

You should sell your blood if needed to play this game, it's that good.

<]=)

T-Man
08-19-2005, 03:04 PM
Sounds intereseting, even though it was created in '94...It only takes place in 2072! Halo 2 is in 2552! WAY ahead of System Shock...

JackAxe
08-19-2005, 03:12 PM
Halo is just a FPS with fun multi-play, System Shock is the work of genious. :)

So, in the year 2552, humans use weopons that suck? :)

I also play PS2 games online.

It's alright, hardly anyone does. Practically all that do are Beta Testers, too. (I am!)

T-Man
08-19-2005, 11:07 PM
Thanks poisonsouriant, look out for me(TigerTimm :D)

Dragonsgames, do you have a router near bye? Its 'FREE'(and slow[75% of the time], so you could just plug it in an play), which is why its better to pay, 'cause if you're going to pay for somethin like that, you'd more than likely want fast internet....

BTW, it took us(well, me) 9 pages to get a Gamertag, I should get paid for everything I had to go thru with JackAxe and his dog (:D)

dragonsgames
08-19-2005, 11:10 PM
I have a router.

Wireless internet for my iBook and PSP, I use it for :D

Will try to use the ps2 to connect. Have never tried before

T-Man
08-19-2005, 11:15 PM
But, the question is, do you have online enabled games?

T-Man
08-19-2005, 11:17 PM
This (http://clientsupport.cc.stonybrook.edu/ssc/consolesonline.shtml) might help(It gave me the chills to look up something with 'PS2' in it...)

dragonsgames
08-19-2005, 11:17 PM
It is dial-up only :(

T-Man
08-19-2005, 11:18 PM
It might still work...

dragonsgames
08-19-2005, 11:20 PM
Nope, it has to connect over a phone. I almost made it dial 911 on accident. It was the default setting :D

T-Man
08-19-2005, 11:23 PM
LOL, I dont know then, wanna ask me how to set up an Xbox on the internet? :)

dragonsgames
08-19-2005, 11:26 PM
I don't think the PS2 has WiFi built in. How come you have 721 posts :D

T-Man
08-19-2005, 11:30 PM
The Xbox 360 has wireless :)
@ the posts: I'm a post-aholic, I think I past my post count at Brighthand, and I joined in January...

T-Man
08-19-2005, 11:37 PM
(730) Bad Vicki!

dragonsgames
08-19-2005, 11:39 PM
You need to dump viki, maybe for someone younger like Princess. She may have a bad voice, but she is rich, and dosen't ask for much. Unlike Vicki, who made you have 730 posts

T-Man
08-19-2005, 11:48 PM
But I dont like ugly voice! Victoria still does the time every hour :)

dragonsgames
08-19-2005, 11:50 PM

I play every day. It's always in my lap. Even as I type this, I have it in my lap. I had one before that that I used for years, my grandmother gave it to me. After I decided that I was "good enough" I saved for close to a year and bought the Fender Jazz Bass - Geddy Lee edition. Geddy' is my bass HERO, and I have no doubt that in my year book I am probably going to just write "To be the worlds next Geddy Lee" and leave it as such. I love my bass. I do almost nothing without it. When I go on vacation, I actually find a place that sells guitars and make a mandatory stop there for about half an hour and play... Sad, I guess, but after you play every day for a few years its probably as strong as addiction as ciggarettes... Without the bad side effects. Well, theres always Carpel tunnel, but [Stops rambling]

Apple makes the OS and computer, it's their products that they are selling and bundling, how is that a monopoly? That's like saying Nintendo has a monopoly on the GameCube, or Mircrosoft on its Xbox. See where I'm going? :)

You get exactly what you pay for, and believe it or not, Apple does not charge a premium for its components. FYI a G4 costs more than a Pentium M, this is just one of reasons Apple is switching to Intel. Apple workstations as an example "cost less" than similar performance 64-bit PC workstaions. OSX is only $129 for the full version, XP Pro an archaic OS in comparison is $269. Apple does charge what they want, and generally they keep their prices fair anc competitive.

For $649 you bought a Centrino with an Intel Graphics chip and slower HD. A G4 PB pretty much anthing will eat that for lunch. And when the G4's Altivec kicks in, it pulverizes it. You're definately not comparing Apples to Apples, you're comparing a Civic (Centrino) to a F150 (G4.) If you would like a similar performance PC note book, you'll need to look at least a 2+ Ghz Pentium M, and for things like multimedia, it will still be slower. Powerbooks are contstructed of better materials, use higher grade screen, not always the highest rez, but better on the colors. Are equipped with DVI out, SVGA out, Firewire 800 just to name a few. There are tons more. And unless you get a lemon, you'll gain an extremely reliable computer. :)

You didn't spend enough to match the Powerbook's specs. :) Next year when Apple starts selling Pentium M Powerbooks, you'll see where I'm going. Price one out to a similar PC, make sure you match all features, not just the proc.

Check out this peep's blogs about his switch to Apple. He deals in security for living and has been working with computers since the stone age;
http://www.networkworld.com/columnists/2005/052305schwartau.html

Trust me, most PCs are blah, and mainly because of their OS. ;)

What I meant is that you can get a Windows PC from dozens of manufacturers on the market. You can only get a Mac from Apple. You can't get a Gateway Mac, or a Dell Mac, or an Alienware Mac, or an HP Mac. You can only get a Mac from Apple, and without competition, Apple's prices are high. Because there's no competing companies making computers that use Mac OS, and thus no choice for people wanting a Mac, Apple has a monopoly on computers running Mac OS.

I'm a college student on a budget. My parents aren't rich like T-Man's, I'm in college on a scholarship, and my job at Staples only pays me $7.10/hour. I can't afford a PowerBook, or even an iBook. Especially if I want a screen the same size as mine. I can't even get a 15", let alone a 15.4" Apple notebook without spending $2,000 or more. I can't use a 12" screen, it's just too small. I'm sure that what I would get for the extra $1,650 is well worth that money. But I don't have that extra $1,650.

Sure, you get a lot from a Mac, and I don't doubt that your PowerBook (or whatever Mac product you have) could eat my notebook for lunch. But you know what? Frankly, my Gateway does pretty well for my needs. I'm not rendering 3-D graphics, or creating programs, or playing really advanced computer games, or anything like that. I just browse the web using Firefox, take notes using Openoffice.org, instant message with Gaim, and occasionally watch a DVD or play SimCity 3000. That's it. And my Gateway does pretty well. And the screen looks just as clear and pretty as any Apple I've seen.

I would love to have a Mac, I really would. But that doesn't mean my notebook sucks.

That's why they call him Bender the Magnificent! Good come-back :D

Yeah, not everyone needs, or can afford, a Mac. That, and that all applications don't run on mac, is why Macs don't sell as well as Microsoft. Maybe when they switch to Intel, prices will go down...

Hey, I never said your notebook sucked. :) Your system fits your needs, which is good, no complaints here.

I was only responding to your remark that basically states that Apple Powerbooks come at a premium and that PCs of the exact same spec cost less, this is simply not true. The biggets hold back for Apple right now is the G4. It's why the iBook hovers at around $1000. I'm pretty sure that when Apple switches to Intel, they'll start selling iBooks with similar specs to Dell and your Gateway in the same price bracket. I'm also sure that the entry level 15" Powrerbook will drop to the price of a 12". But for the rest of the PBs, unless things drastically change, Apple will continue to sell them at their current prices. They can do this, because they'll simply just replace the current components with similar priced parts, like dual-core chips and hopefully greater RAM support, these things acount for the extra $1700.

I understand what you meant, but still you stated monopoly. :D
Apple chooses not to support clones, because they are a hardware company. (The Mac clones that were available in the Mid ninties almost killed them.) Apple would also rather support a small niche of hardware which they can control for quality, this is the part I like about them. MS supports all platforms, because up until their quest to monopolize the living room, they've always been a software company.

Just wait until next year and you'll see tht Apple is truly competitive with their hardware prices, even though they could charge a massive premium. They do this for their ram though. :)

And not all applications run under Windows. :p

Back in the ninties when Apple should've been more consumer friendly, they weren't. At that time their systems did did sell at a huge premium, and they had a mightier than thou attitude towards developers. This of coure made PCs very appealing, and was just part of many reasons why MS was able to gain such a huge dominance. I remember my brother wanted a Mac SE, but it was way out of his price range, so he settled for a XT turbo. I bought my first PC for Ultima Underworld. (I had my brothers XT, but I don't consider that my first.) :)

Fortunately this has changed, or my current system would've been about $15k out of my price range, or Apple would've probably gone the way of SGI.

There were HP iPods...does that count? :p Dell wanted to use OS X...

As long as it works for you, is all that matters. :) So is the G4/G5 proccessor whats giving Macs the prices?

HP was originally going to release a blue iPod that fit their brand better, but ended up dropping the ball, this is why they looked just like Apples.

I am pretty sure I asked this before. (Maybe I didn't?)
Will I be able to dual boot my PC or reformat my PC to run Windows and OSX Or OSX by itself now that Apple switched to Intel?

I think with some [illegal] hacking. I'm not sure, ask someone who knows. :)

Have you seen the "Running Mac OS X on Intel hardware" fourm?

JackAxe

You'll need to buy Apple's Mactel in order to run OS X. Apple is specifically locking the OS to the hardware in order to maintain their quality.

Some peeps will probably figure out how to get the reatil verrsion of Intel-OS X to work on a standard Intel PC. They figured it out with the developer build, but Apple hadn't locked it down, so who knows how things will pan out.

The thing that I'm hoping will happen with this switch, is that I'll be able to buy any PC video card and use it with my Mactel.

There's also Intelintosh, but I think that Apple trademarked Mactel. :)

Man, I'm groggy. Got less than 4 hours of sleep, I needs to be making some coffee. :)

If you installed Windows XP on an Apple, would it be MicroSauce?

Just wondering. (Yikes! WAY off topic. Sorry.)

You could say that. It would be a big downgrade.
