View Full Version : My Gunmetal CLIE got stolen! Damn!

My car got broken in last night and my CLIE got stolen. Funny thing, I have radar detector, digital camera, discman in there and only the CLIE was taken. It's obvious what the thief was after.

I don't even know if the gunmetal is still available to purchase. Even if I find a place to buy, it will probably take me a while to save up for another one. I guess I'll just wait for the next NX w/ 32MB built-in. (I pass on the NZ)

Be warned, DO NOT leave anything valuable in your car ever! Especially your beloved CLIE. I parked in a rather safe plaza w/ security camera shooting right on my car. Still happens. I contacted the plaza security and ask for the video playback. But even if I see it, I doubt it will ever be recover.

What a sad beginning of 2003.

What a bummer!

Hunt them down!
Rip off their fingernails....
Chop off their hands!

that really sucks. it's so painful to lose something so valuable and important.

rip off the fingernails but don't chop off the hands! once the hands are chopped the fingernails part will be useless.

I would rip off the fingernail one by on (after the previous wound is healed) AND then chop off their FINGERS (of course one by one too)

:( Sorry to hear about the stolen Clie though.

I know it's a stretch, but does your car insurance cover that?

When I lived in Vegas, my car got broken into and they stole my stereo system and about 100 CD's. My insurance reimbursed me for all of it. I know a lot of insurance companies won't insure things that aren't bolted down. You just have to look at your policy. For $600, it's worth a shot.

I know the feeling! Did you have any "lock/encrypt" program on it?

My brother had a car stereo stolen out of his vw van several years back (stupid theives, pull out stereo, leave housing in van makes stereo useless) didn't steal anything else he had in the car that was valuable. He called his insurance company, and they covered the stereo, and gave him value for it, so he got a brand new one that was actually better than the first one.. It's worth checking into.

I feel really bad to hear that. I know how much I would want to die if my nx70 ever became missing.

You know, it's probably terrible of me to admit it, but THIS is why I'm ALWAYS skeptical of people who 'just lost' their software. Because they may have 'just found' somebody's elses most prized possession . . . in their car . . . airport security or wherever. Now please understand, I'm an unfortunately suspicious sort to begin with, but it REALLY IRKS me to hear about somebody's clie getting stolen. Then that same LOSER could come here begging for help with the software and . . .

YOU REALLY LOST YOUR SOFTWARE? If you've registered your CLIE, Sony will send you another cd with out too much hassle or $$.

ppnews, I'm sorry for your loss. If you have full coverage insurance, and your car was locked, they should indeed pay for you to get a new one.

Good luck.

My auto insurance will only pay if it's permantely mounted in the original factory location. Some homeowners insurance policies will cover it while it's at home and in the driveway.

Each insurance carrier may have different options and exclusions. The worst they can say is no.

Check with you insurance, but you may find your deductable is higher than your Clie. How long ago did you purchase it, and did you buy it on your credit card? Citibank offers theft protection for 90 days or so. It may be worth a call. Make sure you have a police report.

I too find it odd when someone asks the boards to "burn them a copy" of the included software. I mean a quick call to the PDA mfg. and you have it in a couple days.

Dude, I am totally feeling you on your loss! At least your's was unavailable. I left my NR on the roof of my truck and drove 40 miles before I remembered! I called my insurance agent, and he said stupidity was not covered under my policy.

Unavoidable. Not unavailable...

I have found that the Home Owners policy will cover stuff that is stolen from a vehicle not covered by the auto policy. The drawback is they want the deductible that is usually around $500. Not worth it for the clie but was for a computer my son had stolen from his car.

There are grey / gunmetal NX70s out there still, just gotta look a little, in case you find the funds.

Get a "Personal Articles Policy" with your car/homeower insurance company! I have two PDAs, a laptop, printer, covered for $30/yr. against loss/theft/accidental breakage (yes, if I drop it, it's covered)! Makes for a great night's sleep. :D

Sorry about the loss. Get this ins. on your next one!

I'm sorry your loss - I'm always concern if I lose my PDA/clie because of passwords that I keep on the thing. I always lock the clie, and the passwords I keep encrypted - so I have a 2 layer system of protection.

Watch ebay for someone to sell it. I just saw one on there without any cables, software box, etc... Made me wonder why someone would sell only the unit itself. Hmmm..... BTW you can also check the location of the seller and if you have the box, it shoudl have your serial number on it so you can make a few connections should you find the person. Heck, why not bid on it maybe you will get your unit back.

I too have been the victim of someone ripping off my car and I am still mad as HEL* over it.

Oh, and by the way, when I said I just saw one on ebay, I meant it literally as in last evening. Search for nx70v on ebay.
