View Full Version : "C" compiler for Mac

Does a plain "vanilla" C or ANSI C compiler exist for Mac OS X, such as the GNU C compiler? I can't seem to find one. Please forgive me if this is something that doesn't exist for Macs, my ignorance may show itself...

Also, I remember running across a suite of Palm developer tools which runs on Mac OS X... Anyone have a clue (name of app/suite, website) as to what I may be talking about?

Xcode is probably the easiest Mac compiler to get your hands on. The development base for palm apps is highly modified and will not run on the mac.

The Xcode development environment ships with the Mac OS X on distribution CDs (DVD).

You can also get the latest Xcode tools from the Apple web site <http://developer.apple.com/> by signing up for the "Free" Apple Developer Connection (ADC) <http://developer.apple.com/membership/>

Im not sure it comes with all Macs. I dont think it came with my Powerbook. The cool word editor (the name of which escapes me) also did not come with mine. Either way, it is relatively easy to register for Xcode. On the PC I have a copy of Bloodshed installed, but Xcode is just fine for basic C on a Mac.

Apple has been shipping the developer tools with All releases of Mac OS X.

It is not pre-installed, but it has been part of the installation CDs or DVD.
