I'd like to know if it is the 30 or 14 day period. Thank you!

14, same as computers. most have the 14 day window. best buy also charges restocking- for cameras, but not pdas or computers. compusa charges restocking on all opened items.

based on the commercials, CC seems like it has a great return policy. no experience with that though

Thanks Unregistered for the information. That means I might be outside of the range to get my TG50 exchanged.

Yes, and it's unfortunate the extra warranty I have doesn't cover an exchange either.

My experience with Circuit City has been terrific. I got an NR from them, and after a few weeks, the battery would die from a full charge in about 30 minutes . . . they took it back with no arguements whatsoever (I hadn't purchased the extended warranty thingy). They didn't have any more in stock, so I got to upgrade to a NX.
Is there something wrong with your TG, or do you just not like it?

For the record..........
Best Buy has now begun to "crack down" and they are charging re-stocking fees now! I was charged for a return yesterday in Ohio.
So, if I understand this correctly, they keep the PDA's under lock and key, they do not give customers a chance to touch, hold and "experience" a PDA in the store, so a full decision is hard to make before purchasing one. But, despite the above facts, they have no problem justifying a 15% charge "one the seal is broken".
Best Buy - 15% restocking charges
Comp USA - 15% restocking charges
Circuit City - no restocking charges, yet..............
At least CompUSA and Circuit City allow you to pick a PDA up in the store, so I am staying away from Best Buy all together now. THEY WILL NOT GET MY BUSINESS AGAIN!
Do not make the same mistake I made!

Circuit City is getting to be the same way. I wanted to check out a TG50 and hopefully buy it and the guy wouldn't show it to me. He said it was not possible, not like they didn't have any. So hell with all brick and mortar stores. That's the only advantage they had over online stores. I was so bummed.

The circuilt city store near me says 30days on pdas and 14 on computers. try taking it back and see. You never know. I still can't figure out how all these people that take them back after a year or so get the newest models? DO they say they don't work or what. I tried that and was just offer to sent it back to manafacturer for repair or replacement of same model. I have never been offered a newer model anywhere. I don't buy from Compusa anymore because they are really nasty in Tacoma. Of course they all tell you that you can get a new one before you buy but just try it and the real truth seems to come out.
At least that has been my experience.

The reason why I want to exchange my TG50 is because I'm not happy with it anymore. The small things like the wavy light on the bottom of the screen, the lack of an MP3 remote control wand (I was spoiled by it on my old N760C, NR70V and the NX70V I got to try for a week and loved), and my biggest gripe is with missing Graffiti. There are some things on the TG50's keyboard you cannot do, like use the Graffiti shortcut (cursive L) and other small things. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid device, but I miss having Graffiti. I'm eying the NX60 for now or waiting for the NX73 and sell my TG50 at that time. I will try taking my TG50 to Circuit City and say that after just over two weeks of extensive use I'm not satisified with the unit.
Or, my other alternative is to see if anyone with a near perfect NX60 with no physical defects would be willing to trade. That is my plan B if CC won't take my TG50 back. I will let the community know if that happens to see if anyone would like to trade. If you are intersted in doing so, please PM me. Thank you!

Well, if you've only had it two weeks you should be fine. The only thing would be your options may be limited on trade in based on what PDAs they currently have in stock...

I've had it since the day it was released on 3/15, which is about five days now over the 14 day (if that is the case for PDAs) window.

@ t1000x
Ask to speak to the manager. Make sure there are other employees around and in the nicest calmest way explain that you feel really bad about this but is there anything he or she can do about it. Do not take no for an answer. Keep coming up with things to say in the nicest calmest ways. Eventually the manager will want to demonstrate to others his/her customer service skills and give in. It means more to the manager to please the customer than a regular employee. Make sure you physically talk to the Manager. Do not let the employee walk away and ask. This has always without a doubt worked for me as long as i remain overly nice about the situation and do not come across demanding.

Best Buy does not charge a restocking fee on PDA's unless there is something missing from the contents of the package. This includes pretty much ANYTHING missing except for minor packing materials like plastic bags.
They can, and sometimes do refuse returns that do not have the original UPC, and by default the original box, but will sometimes allow an exchange for a defective item to the same item if you leave the missing parts from the new one with the old one you bring back. That is the discretion of the Customer Service lead.
And as far as Getting a Feel for the item, getting your hands on it, ever think to ASK??
The people that work there are not there to make your life miserable, they are there to sell., If you wanna hold the PDA top get a feel for, believe me, they will let you hold it.
I know that sometimes the Customer Service Supervisors at Best Buy can be pretty hard to deal with. I am one of them and when i say no, your next option is the 888 phone number.
All of Best Buy's Competitors give you 14 or 15 days, we give 30.
So WHY do people expect me to be sympathetic to their plight when they say that they just could not get here in the last 45 days to return this item.
If EVERYBODY else gives 14 days, and says no at 16 days, why would I give you 35 or 40??
If you actually take the time to look around, the return policy for pretty much any store will be posted in the store, might be (like BB) Printed on the reciept or (like BB) the little folder they give you for the reciept, and shuold be available by asking pretty much ANY employee.
And as a last point, you may want to reconsider where you spend your money, because of the three companies you listed, how many did NOT lose money, close locations or release a large percentage of their staffing??
Which one ADDED 25 Stores, bought several other chains in the last few years, expanded outside of the US and showed a profit in 02?
Good luck getting Circuit City to honor that warranty from bankruptcy court bro!

We have had a Best Buys in Silverdale for a little over a year and I haven't had too much trouble with them. There are a couple of things I don't like, One you can't get a good feel for a pda because of the way they are displayed. They are firmly locked intp a bracket inwhich you can hold the pda. If the pda has a flip top, the flip top has a metal frame work which seperates the top from the bottom giving it an unstable feel when pressing the stylus. SO you can't actually hold the thing in your hot little hands!
The other thing is at first the staff was real knowledgeable and friendly. For the past 9 months or so they have had a bunch of idots in the pda section, young kids who really don't give a damn about the products or customers. You can't get any answers out of them and they don't know if they are coming or going let alone what the hell a pda even is in some cases. They have often even been unwilling to even help you. They have lost several sales from friends I have sent in there to get pdas just on how they were treated or lack thereof!
Also they just got in the NZ90 while I have had my for almost a month. Seems if one of their stores in Seattle or Tacoma needs something then the Silverdale store just has to wait until the next shipment. It is like we don't manner because there isn't as large a customer base here as in Seattle, etc. They went for a little over a month with hardly any pdas on display.
There seems to be a healthy turnover of staff so maybe that has something to do with it.
They have the best section of Sony stuff and I like to shop there but do get pissed once in awhile over the attitude of the staff at times.
