I am thinking of it. Currently have a MDA Compact (same as i-Mate JAM) but as I also have a Dell Axim x50v (which I need to sell for the money) I know that my next device will have a VGA screen.
The Compact is great due to its size, the Universal is larger but the clamshell design means I won't need a case to protect the touchscreen, so some size reclaimed there.
I have had an MS Smartphone (SPV C500) but it was too basic, I need Word/Excel now and then.
I don't like the aerial on the Treo, which ruled that out.

Anyone know how much it costs? Anyone know the price of the MDA 4 (T-Mobile), it is the same thing.

I don't think it's out yet, September seems to be the generally agreed date. It will vary A LOT by contract - buying it SIM-free, I'd guess around $1000-$1500 as this is what the PDA2K was going for originally.

Will it work with Sprint?
For those considering the HTC Universal, I've just come accross this great piece of news.
I just wanted to post an update on the Radio stack of the HTC Universal: The WCDMA radio can support simultaneous data connection while the GSM radio handles voice. If WCDMA is not available GPRS is defaulted on the WCDMA radio so you can run GPRS and GSM simultaneously. The radios are separate in the Universal so they can run indepently of each other. I'm wondering if I can run WCDMA and 802.11B at the same time. Supposedly, I should be able to but haven't tested it yet or seen the data on the device. Ummmm how would one go about testing this??? The other thing that many of you may be wondering about is the ability to jump networks to keep a single online session running over different connectivity options. I will be able to test this in October when I have a test setup ready but not until then.

So basically you can talk and surf at the same time! Or more practically, you can receive e-mail while on the phone, or have an IM chat at the same time as a conference call, or have satellite navigation, traffic information and a telephone call at the same time!
If two IP networks are possible at the same time it would be even better. You could have Instant Messenger use the ubiquitous GPRS network, and use WIFI at a hot spot to download a large file at the same time, all while still being able to talk on the phone via bluetooth even.
I'm so definitely getting this device.

Hope it works with Sprint, and dosen't cost too much. I have to sell my cell phone, my memory cards, my Bluetooth MS, and my Clie to get it.

I hope it comes to T-Mobile USA. I'd love to get this. Amazing device. I'd drop Palm in a second. Sorry but thats the reality of it. Palm doesn't fit my needs and WM does when it comes to the hardware aspect. I haven't fully tested Windows Mobile but this would be a great device to test it on. :)
