I've put my thoughts and opinions on the TG-50 I just recieved here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/kesherz/9777.html). It's not exhaustive, and a bit rushed, but that's what you get for one day of use. ;)

Let me know what you think, and I'll try to answer any questions people may have.

One question regarding data entry ... I played with one of these units at Circuit City yesterday. When entering contact information via the keyboard, is there a way to "tab" from field to field without using the stylus? I tried pressing the Tab button on the keyboard, but that just entered a tab character into the field. I also tried pressing the Enter key, but that just inserted a carriage return into the field.

There must be a way to navigate the form using only the keyboard? It would be annoying to have to use a stylus and the keyboard to enter information.

tab by pressing Ctrl + Tab Or if you have Okey installed, you can simply press Ctrl, then Tab

I don't know why so many people don't just read the manual and go about complaining about not being able to tab between entries when you clearly can.

I actually hadn't tried it yet. :) I'll try it tonight and see if I notice any.

I don't see myself using the TG-50 as a music player, since I have an iPod already.

I'm not crazy about the TG50 as an MP3 player because it is missing one absolutely critical feature; an inline remote. That is one thing the N760C, NR seiries had that I miss. It is one reason why I want to go to a NX60 (that and I have a WiFi access point and no permanent Bluetooth adapters for my PC).

I suspect you are also a car owner.

Only ppl who walk or take public transport will need an MP3 player...otherwise, why would you not just plug the CDs into your car radio?!

yOyOYoo, thanks for the clarification on the Tab key. I certainly would have read the manual if Circuit City displayed it next to the demo unit! :D

I know most people don't read the manual, but my practice is to COMPLETELY read the manual before I even turn the device on -- no matter if it's a PDA, TV, Tivo, DVD player, or whatever.

"I don't know why so many people don't just read the message ..." :)

not to mention it's kinda boring to up/download the new mp3z all the time .. because 128mb playlist is simply small ..
i personally prefer radio to any other source of music (cd,md, mp3 ...) => there many stations "out there" .. always different music .. don't need to "stay current" with your mp3z ..
i would really love to see at least MS radio ( i read that maybe iBiz will release one ..i hope they will ) ..
not to mention radio takes considerablly less energy ...

Tried it out last night. There's a definite popping sound when starting/stopping playback, but I don't hear any buzzing or hissing during the few tracks I loaded to test.

I'll stick with my iPod for music, though. :)

Hey-o,
Great review, very informative.
As a Treo 90 user myself and one also considering the jump to a TG50 what do you have to say? I'm quasi tempted to stick with my Treo but seeing as how I broke my MP3 player it seems like a natural opportunity to make the jump....

MS Radio would be a really cool add-on. Keep us informed.

Well, the biggest loss is going to be size. The TG-50 is significantly larger than the Treo. It's also going to take time to get used to the keyboard. Like I said, the Blue (and Red) Shift keys don't work the same as on the Treo, and the feel is quite different. Plus, I miss the '10-key' number layout. The TG has the numbers along the top row of keys. Also, having only 11MB of usable storage is... painful.

On the plus side, you're getting a much faster system. Plenty of multimedia capabilities, so it'll make a decent replacement for your MP3 player (with a good-sized Memory Stick). Plus the video and Flash capabilities are excellent.

Oh, you're also likely to love the Jog Wheel. :)

As an FYI, try MarkSpace.com's The Missing Sync for your Mac. Works like a charm for the Clie, both OS9.x and OS X.
