I am sitting here at my office and a package just arrived with my Sony MSAC-US20 MS reader. I am finally able to use the MSPRO without the MSIMPORT. The device is acutally very cool looking and works like a charm. The reader says that it is usb2 but I am not getting the typical usb2 transfer rate. Sony support has an upgraded Memory Stick formatter for the Reader but once I installed it the transfer rate did not increase. I guess they will release some kind of patch in the near future to enable USB2 speed transfers. Anyway here is a pic:

Sweet!
I hope a firewire version comes out, afterall sony themselves use firewire, and they call it iLink.

Anyway you can test to see if it will work on a Mac, specifically OSX? Are there drivers for Mac OS in the package? Just want to be sure before I part with my money :)

Ken,
I don't see any Mac drivers on the disk. There might be some floating around the sony support page though. On the back of the box it says that it support OS 9.0/9.1/9.2 and 10.1. I assume since it is treated as a drive in XP that the Mac should do the same. Sorry I no longer own a MAC so I can't verify that the above is true. Check out the sony support page before you buy it though!

The speed also is not what I expected...

I have never used the formatter that came on the disk but I believe there is an update on the sony site. I assume the version of MS formatter there is more current than the one that came on the cd. Give it a try!

Don't expect too much on the speed of MS Pro, especially in writing to the files. Two weeks ago I had posted the benchmark of VFSMark indicating that the file writing speed for MS Pro is the same as MS. The real speed improvement lies in reading data from the media, not in writing to it.

Yeap, I noticed that too. writing speed is the same!

I am also not able to play ATRAC3 songs from the MS PRO. I can drag them to the MS but when inserting it on the Clié the ATRAC files are not listed on audio player.
Trying to use Sonic Stage I get a message that this kind of media does not support this fike. All MS PRO are MG.
Thanks in advance for any ideas or thoughts.

In the readme of the Update MS Pro drivers is mentioned that ATRAC is not supported... Don't know if they might release another patch?!? But at this moment AFAIK it is impossible to play back ATRAC files.

My memory stick reader was plug n' play on my OSx 12G4 powerbook. I'd assume (hope) the MS pro reader would be the same.

I agree about native OS X support. I have a PC2 Memory Stick PC Card Adaptor that needed drivers in OS9, but none in OS X. But now with MSPro, I'll have to upgrade to the PC3 Card. Maybe I'll just get the cool looking reader.
