has anyone tried hardwiring the car charger into the cigarette lighter wires? i have done this before with other cigarette lighter plugs but have not tried with the LD one yet. does the car charger one have 2 wires or ? i have other things i need to plug into the cigarette plug while i charge my palm.

side note: compusa sells the car charger for $19.99 (i think regular price is $29.99). but i got the last one in stock at the store i went to so i could not get 2 incase splicing didn't work. :(

Get a DC power outlet splitter at Radio Shack. It would be a heck of a lot safer.

I have car chargers for my phone, and my th-55. But my LD - I dont trust Palm and its OEM suppliers. I now have three diffrent ac adaptors, brought an extra one when i had the t5, One came with the lifedrive and came with the t5/lifedrive crade. All of them are diffrent. Two made by netbit and one made phong. I'd get one by Ipower if that made a t5 tip, or get a small inverter, I know its a waste of energy, But i rather have an inverter blow and trip its circuit breaker and fuse, than trust my 500 pda in a 19 dolor car adaptor.

thanks for the suggestions. while the inverter would work for the palm, it would not work for my bluetooth GPS receiver. that plugs into the cigarette lighter only. i will try the splitter. i just didn't want all those wires dangling all over my console.

The problem with most inverters, especially inexpensive ones is they don't put out a pure sine wave. My UX50 wouldn't charge from my AC inverter, the charge light flickered so I didn't trust it.

I have the Treo 650 charger for my LifeDrive and it seems to work just fine. The DC chargers have fuses too....

Fuses are meany to protect from shorts, They do not protect from overvoltages, the inverter puts out a regulated 110v (stage one) tthen passing that back through the 5V transformer from palm.

That i trust
