Anyone used Skype's free service? Is it pretty good? I live in Mexico and want to call people up in the US and overseas but I don't want to get screwed on landline or cellular telephone service, if you don't know, the government here owns the phone company.

I am in Mexico too, used it to call to the US either, and the free service is fairly good. I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have broadband though.
And man, the government doesn't own any of the phone companies, why do you think that?
Skype is THE answer for voice chat. SkypeOut is very cheap too. I recommend it, but it really requires broadband connection.

Yes, go for it, I've been using it for a time now and it works perfectly well. It helps alot if you have broadband and a fairly good computer - PIII 500 at least. And try to get a good sound card. it makes a lot of difference. I've tried with inboard card a poor sound card and a good sound card and the difference is big - cuts feedbacks if you use mic and speakers. I use them and I can speak freely within a few meters from the mic and people on the other end still listen perfectly. I hear them perfectly also.
Hope it helped,

Hucsman, what part of Mexico are you located?

Soy de Puebla, así que no estamos tan lejos :)
Telmex does have most of the telecom industry, but it isn't government. It's owned by the fourth wealthiest man on earth.

4th? Who would that be? I never knew that!
Puebla is a very beautiful place, and as you probably know, Veracruz is very dirty and the people are different from the rest of the country. Hows Popo treating you over there?
