Seems like smartphones are really taking over. Motorola is releasing the new "Q" which is aimed at the BlackBerry and the Treo. I personally think that it is superior to them. I wish it had Wi-Fi though...the dimensions are great for such a packed little beast.

No Clamshell, no thank you. Look at the screen. Also Kirvin, being the handheld wizard, told me that WM Smartphone edition ccan't run all WM apps.

Just like Steve Jobs predicted when he killed the Newton in '98....

That looks like a Treo killer to me. If its done right, Palm needs to watch their back. It looks like a Razr and a Treo 650 mixed.

Nahhhh...too small of a screen resolution for me.

This phone is going to suck. It doesnt have: Wifi, a touch screen, EVDO (from what ive read), or any real redeeming factors. Sorry, this is really a bust. If they could make a full fledged winmobile device in the V3 shell, I'd consider it a "treo killer".

I don't like the RAZR, looks like cheap plastic was used to make it. This device looks cool but I want a Device with WM 5.0 Phone edition not smartphone edition.

THAT is a competitor for the UX...

oh well, it is PPC but I still quite like it, it even comes with GSM/GPRS/3G and WIFI...
But since there is a program (http://www.styletap.com/) which runs most of the PalmOS apps on a PPC I might be switching to the dark side...

yay i think razr thin is awesome
I think this new unit may give some trouble to Blackberry sales. Especially with M$ releasing their own push email. This device will be a great upgrade for current Blackberry users that are not used to being able to do too much on their phone/handheld.
But for Treo 650 users, this device is still a Windows device which is why they bought a 650 in the first place - they like the way things are laid out and how easy it is to get around the OS and get their day job done with it.
I went along with Sony on the whole path of U and N and NX 70 units. The UX50 had been my wifes, but I was really hoping for the next step from the UX50 - alas, it will never come.
Isn't there already a little cell phone with a mini keyboard running Windows? I guess this is thinner, so they will sell more?

That is just not going to work in a real business environment where sensitive data is concerned. A camera? IT security will ban it faster than you can spell NDA.
One of the reason why the 'berry is so pervasive is because it is a very focused device which does its thing rather well.... If the Q loses the camera, it might be a contender.

by running windows this thing is barely superior to a calculator, The true test of any os in a PDA or Cell is how much that function is used. Blackberry users, use and are very loyal to their devices, Palm PDA users use and are very loyal to theirs. Windows CE/PPC users leave theirs in the bottom left draw of the desk or in the cradle.

The fact of the matter is that Palm has now no edge against PPC. Everything Palm has released has been improved in the PPC environment. Palm needs to wake up and pump out CLIE quality units. Hell, if I was the CEO of Palm, I'd pay SONY to get back on the market. Honestly, SONY was what kept Palm alive for so long...

with LG licensing Palm, I think they will produce a couple of neat devices soon, Sony has their own OS/agenda with the PS2 etc. I use my UX50 and have not found anything worth switching to, I have had several clie's and were happy with each of them at the time. I also have a treo 600.

The reason Palm has developed so much is due to the CLIE line. This is correct. The CLIEs has hi-res screens before Palm did. Sony implemented media before Palm. Palm was always trying to catch up with Sony. Now the Sony line gone, I have a feeling two things will happen, Palm will slow down its innovation of their devices or will continue what Sony started. By the looks of it, I think they are doing a little of both but more of the first option. Due to none of their devices are really all in one with WiFi like the UX. The Treo is all in one without WiFi. The LifeDrive is all in one without a camera.

Sony will never make a Palm or WinCE device they have their own OS,
http://games.slashdot.org/games/05/07/27/1521217.shtml?tid=233&tid=207
they like to do everything in house, dispite M$ money and blackmail their PPC system will never make mainstream. Linux will move into that spot
