View Full Version : Why Do My Sync Cables Keep Failing?

I've only had my Treo since late March and I've gone through TWO sync cables. The one that came with the Treo failed after just a few weeks. I know the cable was bad because the Treo synced just fine with the replacement cable.

This week, the replacement cable failed.

I kept the cables plugged in to the computer all the time. They are also kept mostly wound up in a twist tie (for neatness). Could either of these factors be contributing to this ridiculous failure rate?

Is this otherwise a widely recognized phenomenon, or is this just a stretch of bad luck?

One time I connected my sync cable to my Treo and it disconnected from my pc whitout me touching it. I pressed firmly on the cable connection to the Treo and it reconnected. It's only happened once but I think the usb sync cable isn't a perfect match. It seems to be a little loose even when firmly connected. For your situation maybe the pins on the cable are getting damaged by your Treo? Just a thought.

darn cable is too sensitive. Just blowing on the cable will make it disconnect from the PC so I had enough and bought me a cradle instead. Much better now.
