the lid when snapped in is almost impossible to pry off; i almost broke my nail trying to pry it open; this is incredibly poor design; the case otherwise is awesome and very slick looking; but how crappy if i can't even open the damn thing

It gets easier after a week or two. I have no trouble opening it with my thumbnail now.
I think this is the best case I have owned for any Palm/Clie. It covers more than a lot of hard cases (like the Innopocket ones) and adds very little bulk to the LD.

If you are holding the case as you would normally hold your Lifedrive in portrait mode, you're blocking the hinge on the left. Place your fingers at the top of the device and your thumb at the bottom, then using the 'finger cutout' on the edge of the lid, push the lid slightly to the left and lift up.
I haven't broken any nails using this method :)

I had trouble at first, but then realized that I was trying to "jerk" the cover open. If you put your left thumbnail in the slot and slowly pry it open, I think you will have much more luck.
I, too, love this case and am very pleased with it.

I had the same trouble. I filed gently at the closing clips until it was easy enough to open.

I use a seldom used plastic membership card(somewhat like a credit card) instead of my nail.

The trick is slide your finger up and down the slot. Look at the under side of the lid where your finger would fit - it's been milled (?) just longer than the plastic finger cutout to allow this sliding motion to occur. You will see it's actually cleverly designed

How about gluing a ribbon to the inside of the lid, letting it stick out.
Sorta like the way some devices use a ribbon to pull their batteries out of their compartment.

I tried it but it doesn't seem to work. Any possibility for a video demonstration?
