love my NZ except for the unspeakable battery performance...

Is it true that Sony is working on a new battery type for the NZ?

cheers Nicolas:(

If it is hard to find... do we know what we are looking for..? I am ready to go and get one... would be delighted to know what to look for. (smile)

I don't believe its OUT> I heard they were working on a new battery. But if it was out it would be on the front page of ClieSource.

If there is a really a new battery Out, give me a site where I could buy it or some place I could get more info.

I agree. If it was out, cliesource would have a story on it. Even if there was a detailed rumor, cliesource would have story on it. So, I think there is no new battery, at least at this time.

I take with less than a grain of salt an "unregistered" user's comment on much of anything ... especiailly a statement as silly as "it's out there, hard to find"! Sheeze!!! Talk about garbage! If one cannot take the few moments it takes to register than I cannot take the micro-second it takes to pay any attention to them ... Cheers :-)

Who knows.... but it's new!!!! :D

BTW, I think it's all rumour... Sony may introduce an NZ upgrade with a "better" battery and if we're lucky maybe it'll retrofit to the NZ.... Personally, the battery is fine, it's people perceptions that are a bit overblown...

I am wondering if the battery issue is not with the battery itself but the smart battery information program itself. For example I opened the battery information up and then watched it bounce around. Another example, on a fully charged battery ( it showed me at 7hrs 11 minutes which is the first time and the most I have ever seen, it ususally shows 5hrs, 15 minutes to 6 hrs 30 minutes) I played about 30 minutes of freecell and it dropped only "2" minutes (98%) worth on the charge. Got home and opened it up and it said 4 hours left (69%), then I opened bejewelled and played two games it went up to 89% or 5hrs. This is the first that I have noticed such a wide range of readings. It doesn't seem to give every acurate information.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Is this normal or something that I should consider taking this unit back for? I noticed that it is an early production model that has that misprinted forward slash on the keyboard.

well, if my perception is overblown by a performance of 3-5 flash pics and then it is all over... I cannot agree:rolleyes:

I am going now through the forth reloading cycle and it has not improved much! Therefore I really hope for a better stamina of a new improved battery, looking at my DSC-P7 digital cam (3.6V 2.4Wh) from Sony it is likely possible...

Well, new battery is one thing, it is only possible to stuff so much into that space.

If I had it my way, the next Camera Clie, would have a external camcorder battery, it could come with a sexy little flat one which looks like it belong there. BUT with the option of slapping a huge camcorder battery on there for vacation, and other kinds of wild uses....

just had a chat with Sony hotline in Germany concerning my battery:

they suggested to do a hard reset then play a movie on the basic NZ (so no restore from hotsync or MS) till the battery alert comes up. Which happened at 13% after about 2 hours. Then put it on the cradle for at least 7 hours, even when the orange light has gone off...

will let you know what the performance will be!

by the time they come up with a battery, the nz90 will be obsolete!

i think we are already half way throught the product cycle/life, they should have a new one out by summer! hopefully with wifi built in!

UPDATE:

did what they told me (see above) and it seems to work: shot 32 pics with flash in one row without a complaining nag screen telling me that there is to little power.
After those 32 shots battery was down at 38% and after 10secs back to 78% after having started off at 98%...
It is still not an exciting performance but at least one I can live with... till a better battery comes out!

but what did the battery info say for 'usable' after your test? did it increase any higher than the average 6 hours and change that most of us seem to be getting?

no, rather less: between 4-5 hours, but big difference is being able to shoot over 30 flash pics in a row and after a few secs still having 75%...

I do not know what the whole procedure did to the battery but it seems to have better stamina now

cheers Nicolas

I still think it is not necessarily the battery itself that is the problem but the smart battery information program. MY goes all over the place with readings and will change as I watch it with no other programs running. Yesterday I went from 100% or 9 hrs 11 mins (this is a first!) to 99% 4 hrs, 15 mins and back to 100% 6 hrs 40 mins where it stayed. After playing about 20 minutes of freecell it only dropped to 97% 6 hrs 11 mins.

I am noticing that my battery readings are now getting longer after 10 cycles. When I first got my NZ90 I took about 40-45 pictures with flash one after another and it went from 100% 5 hrs 11 mins to 69% 3 hrs 45 mins.

So go figure!! I am thinking all the battery problems are not with the battery itself but the smart battery reader.

Anyone else notice the same thing???????
