Hi
I am having this little thought about getting my existing SONY mobile phone charger to work with my CLIE.
Background: I do a lot of travelling with light gear (motorcycle and such). Already having adapted my charger to work with a SONY Minidisk device, I made some additional cabeling to use it also with my GARMIN GPS12 model. So it is one charger for two devices now (not at the same time, though).
It would be wonderful to adapt this very same charger to power my CLIE as well, but it says it has 6V 800mA output, while the CLIE chargers have 5.2 Volt 2000 mA. I see only little a problem in reducing the volts (a diode will do), but I definitely cannot tune the charger up to 2000 mAmps!
I hope, that SONY just ships a standard charger, which will fit many devices needing 2000mA or less for charging?
QUESTION 1: Has anybody aquired data about the mAmps that REALLY are in effect when charging a drained 675 (or maybe a similar model) ?? If somebody already has a car adapter, maybe he/she could be so nice to measure the mAmps?
As my little charger proved very valuable, I do not want to melt it when trying... If nobody answers, I will just have to wreck that cable and do some measurements on my own (which I will do probably anyway). But maybe you already tried and found out that the CLIE is really THAT thirsty. In this case, well, you could save me some work, and IŽll buy a new one ... :-(
QUESTION 2: I am not really into electronics. The little plug powering the cradle shows the following symbols " + - - "
Which means that one pin has positive 5.2 V, and the two others are both negative earth. What is this for? In any case, you will only get either 5,2V or 0V from that ???
