View Full Version : Hotsync Error on AddressDB - GoldMine

Hi,

One of my clients has a Tungsten T3 - Palm OS 5.2.1, Palm Desktop software version 4.1.2. (Workstation is running Windows XP) He syncs his Palm with GoldMine version 6.5 (a contact management software application) using GoldMine's conduit that installs into the Palm Hotsync.

Everything was working fine until a few months ago when it just stopped working. He finally called and asked us to come in and take a look at it.

The Hotsync log on the Palm side indicates a "GoldMine Conduit Synchronization Error". The Hotsync log on the Palm Desktop side shows the following error:

Error DB AddressDB func- SyncOpenDB, error SYNCERR_FILE_NOT_OPEN
Failed to read AddressDB
Goldmine Conduit Synchronization Failed

The error occurs just after "Memos" and before "Expenses"

We removed and reinstalled the GoldMine conduit - still failed
We then uninstalled and reinstalled the Palm Desktop software, reinstalled the GoldMine conduit - still fails, same error.

If the GoldMine conduit is removed, there are no errors in the Hotsync.

I've been searching the Palm forums and it looks like the AddressDB file is really ON the Palm and the problem MAY be related to some problem with that file. (there are no other errors during the sync).

Some posts that I've seen seem to indicate that I might be able to fix the problem by deleting that AddressDB file on the Palm using a program called FileZ. I've found and downloaded the FileZ.prc file.

My questions, since I am not a heavy Palm user:
Am I on the right track?
Should I go ahead and delete that AddressDB file using FileZ?
Is it likely that doing so will fix the problem?
Anyone have any idea what might have caused the problem in the 1st place?

(also, if I'm NOT on the right track, any suggestions would be very much appreciated)

Thanks very much!

Dave Dunlap

If you delete AddressDB, the addresses will not show on the Palm. If you are willing to do this, and the contacts are in Palm Desktop, go ahead and do it. Just make sure you delete the AddressDB file in the backups folder also.

While I don't have an exact answer for you, deleting the addressdb won't do much since on a T3, it's just a "shim" between legacy programs/conduits, and the newer proprietary PalmOne databases (Contacts, Calendar, etc.) where all the data really is. You might make sure your client has the latest PIM update for the T3 (http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/pim_update.html). You might also try having the desktop overwrite the handheld when doing a sync (if the desktop does indeed have all the correct data).

Of course, standard backup precautions apply before applying any patch, or attmpting any file manipulation, deletion, etc. In the worst of situations, data loss can occur. Yada yada yada...

Edit: Of course the first thing to try is a soft reset by using the reset button on the back of the device.

Josh,

Thanks, especially for the suggestion about deleting the backup file also.
