Seems to be supported by Sony and has three different models to choose from... but what is it ? Seems like a cellphone attachment to me ?

I translated it through Babelfish but it didn't give me any more ideas... what is PHS ?

It is a sled to run Compact Flash cards on a Sony T series Clie.

From what I understand PHS is a wireless data service that is big in Japan. The NX's support those PHS cards and it looks like those are just regular PHS CF cards with a CF sled for the T-series.

I really could use a mobile ... but I'll be damned before I start carrying around both: A cell and my beloved Clie. A smartphone extention card... Why the heck isn't there anything like it. I have no use for GPS, Bluetooth or WirelessLAN, but a smartphone extension: I would be the first to run to my local store to get one!

What is PHS? Here's a link with some explanation...
Basically it's another system just like GSM, it's much better to your health, and have more value-added services. But it's service range is shorter than GSM, hence it's good only in big cities....

The device is just a wireless internet card, it receives internet internet data through the card.

a major form of cellphone being used here in japan (the others are W-CDMA and PDC)... think of it as just a wireless/cordless house phone with the entire city as your house... that is why PHS have a weak signal when you leave the city... and most PHS wont work when you are in motion (moving cars, trains, etc.)... though that being the PHS weak point, it is quite fast, and most cards avaliable in the japanese market reach speeds of up to 128KBps (fixed monthly rate - unlimited use)...
