My problem is connecting to the internet from my Bluetooth enabled cell phone to my bluetooth pda through msn dialup. I heard that you can use your minutes from your cell phone if you use the dialup number to connect. Well anyway, I used all of my local dialup numbers but there is no dial tone when I use them. I checked all the settings on my cell phone, and everything seems to be data ready. As for my pda, I followed all the directions and have them “paired” in Bluetooth correctly. When I hit connect, my pda will give a message saying “no carrier” and gives a tone from the phone as like it isn’t available.

Is there something I must enable through my msn account to get connected to the internet? does it involve me contacting my cellular provider? Or is it my pda that I don’t have configured correctly? I’ve browsed through all the fourms and there weren’t any help, and have read all the manuals that came with my cell phone and ux40. I know this problem has been posted a million times, but I can’t seem to understand it because of people having different models for their phone and pda. I’d really appreciate a walkthrough if it isn’t much on how to do this. :) thank you in advance. :D

Internet provider: msn dialup
Pda model: sony clie peg-ux40
Cell phone service: cingular wireless
Phone model: Motorola v551 gsm

Welp, I don't know if this will work, but can give it a try though.

Cellphone connect with UX (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31292&highlight=cellphone+internet+ux40) and
Sony tutorials (http://esupport.sony.com/perl/model-tutorials.pl?mdl=PEGUX40)

I doubt that this will help your situation, but with my LG-325..., it is very easy to setup. I found this somewhere in these forums.
1. I had to pair the phone with my UX using the serial code on the phone's box.
2. Under the BT menu, select the new device listed and then select "enable", which enables the BT DUN for that device.
3. On my UX, I had to create a new Connection that would connect to the phone via BT.
4. Next, I had to create a new Network service that would use the new connection and had the following:
User Name:qnc
Password:qnc
Number:#777

And that was it. I realize that this probably doesn't apply to you, but if all else fails...

thank you for the posts! but, still nothing has worked. i tried those links and tips, which were very interesting and helpful. although, i can't seem to understand why i get the "no carrier" error. i think it comes down to using a csd connection from your cell phone. correct me if i'm wrong. i might need to have an account enabled... or something like that. i don't want to use the gprs connection because it won't use my minutes. besides, it costs more money to use the gprs than the csd since it uses KB. so this problem is now seeming to be an evil nuisance that is phone related. i'll try to contact my phone carrier and see if they can tell me anything. if anyone is in this situation.. or was, i'd love to hear what you have to say! lol.

That's a good idea because (besides being pretty much the only option left), I believe that's how most of these instructions first came about.
Good luck,

havn't touched a pda in awhile, but recently purchased one on ebay to try to do the same thing.
while waiting for my ux to arrive i was doing some reading and was thinking maybe "softick ppp" mite be able to do this.
not too sure if it will work, but worth a try?

You need a data account; not a dial-up. A regular cell phone/dialup connection is w-a-a-y too slow anyway, trust me.

I am thinking about getting LG-325 from Sprint.
I wanted to know about the charges.
Does it charge minutes?
Do you need to have a data plan?

t's $5 per month for unlimited internet access. Plus, that phone is setup to make it pretty easy to get going. It's a great setup, but the phone itself doesn't seem to get as good of reception as most of Sprint's other phones. Probably because it has an internal antenna. HTH -mm

sorry to hear about your problems
just got my ux40 in the mail a few days ago and am able to connect with a dialup isp with my cellular without a problem.

all i can say is make sure you setup the "connection" settings properly on your palm preferences.
then the "network" correctly using the prior mentioned "connection" settings.

i suggest instead of using the pre-defined settings, you make new ones for both the "connection" and "network" in palm preferences.
best of luck!

1MB media feature???!!! OMG what in the world, is that right? I hope 1MB doesn't mean what I think it means...Megabite. If so, I don't think you can really do much with that small amount of memory...

I just did lil search on the net to see if that was a typo and it seems it is a plan heheh BUT, I believe that media net plan is the wrong plan you are looking for. Media net is letting you access multimedia stuff just for your phone *ringers, screensavers, etc* What you should be looking at is the data plans (http://onlinestorez.cingular.com/cell-phone-service/wireless-phone-plans/cell-phone-plans.jsp?catid=2206800007) to help you connect to your PDA. :)

ah, okay i get it now. i had a feeling it wasn't the right thing i signed up for. (that's why i signed up for the minimum plan they had.)... anyways, back to the data plan. so it is that one right?.. $20 for data connection???... that's too much on my budget, i'm already spending $50 a month for the phone bill alone....darn if only it was cheaper. LoL :D thank you very much for the information, you were very helpful. but, i'll have to pass on connecting to the internet. *sob..sob* :(

i know... i know... i get this a lot, you would think i'd have the money since i have a ux. LOL :D (if only that were true) but, i recieved this as a gift in high school from my parents. now, since i'm in college... money is kinda tight for me at the moment. maybe around christmas time, i'll sign up for the data connection. anyway, if i get the data connection, is 5 mb enough or should i purchase the 10 mb? basically, i'm asking do most people who have internet connection with their ux, use a lot of mb while accessing a couple of sites? **thanks in advance!** :D

just depends on what you want to visit the sites. Are you going to visit mostly mobile only sites, text only, no images. Or you going to visit full webpages that has images and alot of stuff. It also depends on how often you are going to use the net, if often, i don't think 10MB would be enough. As for me, I just went safely with the unlimited data because I do like to stream music, visit sites, and check my email ^_^.
