TCMP has released the bomb for playing video's on the Zod. TCMP is the first media player capable of playing native file formats on the Zod WITH optimization for the ATI video card inside. MMPlayer has been losing steam under TCMP for a while now, but ATI video chip optimized, who's gonna catch that. Thanks Picard for the best of best in freeware. Hopefully his paypal account is speaking for him through donations.
I'll be honest, I tried to see if the lifedrive would shelf my Zod a couple of weeks ago. It didn't even come close and now new palm development is only falling further and further behind the Zod. (I returned the LD before my 14 days was up) How long ago was the Zod released anyway. I'm kind of joking about palm devices falling behind but really when you consider the release date of the Zod and where current development is, your forced to at least tip your hat to a device that was ahead of the game in a lot of areas.

That is very true. Until somebody else puts in a video accelerator, or anolog controller, or at least an LED! (yes i'm talkin bout Tungsten E, E2, T5, XX) The Zodiac is still a top of the line PDA.

oh, Thats right. The Th-55 and Zodiac are still top of the line pda's and they don't make them anymore!
Brad, Do you have a wi-fi Th-55 or just bluetooth?

Don't worry JJF, that analog controller is a bit overrated ;)
Although it is a zillion times better than the TH55's button layout for games it must be said...!
I think my TH55 is jealous about the new TCPMP; On my Zod2 it's gone from twice as fast, to four times as fast as my TH55!!
Man, if only the GE2D could do hardware MPEG4 decoding too!! Imagine that!! :D
I wonder how the Zod and Palms compare now in terms of playback speed; I assume the T|5 and LD had pretty high framerates with their monster CPUs, but with the hardware assist enabled on the Zod they should be about neck and neck at least! But without the power drain ;)

The video playback is downright amazing now. I'm almost tempted to buy an extra Z2 and just store it. I honestly don't see another Palm OS device that will be replacing the Zodiac. PalmOne just doesn't make devices like this and it doesn't look like they ever will.

It's the community support - This is why the Zod and Clie lines have such rabid followers :D
It's ironic actually, Jeff was talking about how Palm's old mantra was something like "Excite the user", but it's Tapwave and Sony who have been doing all of that!! :p :D

I bought a second Z2. I bought a LD as second nice pda but hated it. I thought about the TH55 but I'm BT dependant and $600 is just...$600. My friend has a TH55 and I do like it, but I think I'm fully addicted to landscape and buttons. I'm afraid that the zod ruined me.
After grabbing the LD and trying it out I couldn't do portrait, I missed the power and app button being positioned right under my left thumb with my next step being analog navigation. Even if I do have my stylus in my right hand I'm powering, navigating, and returning home all with my left thumb. I finally got my clie yamaha sound chip back (even with the cheezy cliesounds polyphonic alarms! chariots of fire still brings me to tears as I wake in the morning) awesome stereo speakers, vibrating alarm...man now I just need the TH's camera and voice record (which are both on my Nokia6600 with BT and MMC for transfer). I do think that the TH and Zod are both monster truck pda's neither one of them have everything but both of them are more than enough.
