View Full Version : Text entry on T5
Hi,
I would like to know if you use your T5 for entering text much (as opposed to data look up only) and what do you use for text entry (Graffiti, QWERTY, or third party sotware).
I have been using MessagEase (www.exideas.com) and I am quite happy with it. But like to know what other people use.

I use G2 though the recent G1 I installed on my T5 allowed me to write faster. So I guess my preferred writing input is G1. Now before anyone flames me and ask me to try the G2, I already did. For 2 years using a Z71 (was using a m105 before the Z71). I only realized that G1 was better for me when I installed it again on my T5.
That said, I do try to avoid large text inputs using the PDA. Short notes and to do lists only. I Hotsync everything else. Much faster this way.

Tend to use G2 for short text imput
The onscreen QWERTY for longer sections.
However, I use an IR keyboard if I'll be sitting down and entering large amounts of text.
Recent posting have got me curious about G1 though, I continue to have a bad rate of success with letters like "k", "t", "i" etc
In fact, discovered that I had independently 'developed' certain symbols for some letters that turned out to be G1 symbols that work in G2, such as "a".

FYI, I've been working on a virtual thumbboard app and it's now in a public beta test mode. With Reggie's permission, I started a thread about it here (http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91061). Please give it a try and let me know what you think. It was originally developed with the Zodiac in mind. That device is unique in that it's "default" layout is optimized for landscape usage, so using Graffiti 2 (which I hated compared to the original Graffiti anyway), never felt right to me.
The T5 and LifeDrive, while possibly not as comfortable to hold in landscape mode as the Zodiac is, have a leg up on the Zodiac for this orientation in that they have the D-Pad OS integration that was first developed by the Handspring team for the Treo 600. As I'm sure you know, that allows you to use the D-Pad to tab around to the various fields and buttons on the screen without using the stylus. Coupled with my thumbboard app, you *should* be able to keep your LifeDrive in landscape mode all the time and do just about everything without using the stylus.

I have graduated from Graffiti (hate G2!) and tried Fitaly and MessagEase. Now MessagEase is my choice of text entry.
It works great, in landscape mode as well as portrait mode (switches automatically) so you have the same input interface no matter what. It also allows you to enter all characters, not just letters, and has some nifty editing functions. I have used in on my Zod and T5 with no problem.
Check it out if you need something much faster than QWERTY or Graffiti

I use G2 but always have trouble entering capital "I"s in landscape mode ... ebernie, how did you get G1 to run on a T5? I thought that wouldn't work? I'll see if I can find a discussion thread about it ...
