View Full Version : Palmgear trick... You're being tricked.

I remembered when search results in Palmgear used to be in order of most downloads to least. That's no longer the case and I began trying to figure out their new order.
Search for any freeware in Palmgear (xmaster, converter, filez, etc.). Notice the order of the results: Shareware first, than freeware despite the fact that you searched for a specific software title.
From the looks of it the order of the results is completely random, perhaps based on how much money they make by selling it.
I previously said that Palmgear is nothing more than a good software search engine... I take that back. It's not even that.
Hmm, that explains why I have problem searching apps in there today.
NO kidding Wilbur, that was posted on pilotwarez.

So it has. Also, apparently results that don't have anything to do with the search are also returned according to a cretin warez site that will probably be removed promptly..

Here's another one, I still have yet to get my revenge on them.

You all do realize that they are a for profit company, right?

Simply put, Palmgear pisses me off, and I'm no longer going to their website. Their search engine really sucks. Worst I've ever seen. Now they want you to register to be able to download apps. Hogwash, I'm through with them.

oh i wasnt observing.. but yeah, now that you mention it, its true! I also agree with all the other observation. as far as "palm software seargh engine" is concern, got any alternative for palmgear? handango perhaps? but their search engine is not as good as "the old" palmgear.

They started out as just a Mac software tracker, but now they also do Windows and palm apps.

Well that explains the *find* feature lately... and changes... oh well, some do what they feel they must... and we can choose to patronize them or not.

I think I am done with PalmGear. I used to really like them and always spread the word about them. But they seem to be placing making money over customers. I realize that they are a company trying to make money, but there is a limit on how you treat the people paying you. To me, I think they are crossing the limit. Who's to say what tricks they will pull tomorrow.

They lost me as a 'loyal' customer when they stopped linking to the developer's website directly from the app page. This change is just more icing on the cake, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, I don't know that Handango is any better. Look at their list of best-selling software. I find it hard to believe that SilverScreen is ALWAYS listed as one of their best sellers. Like many people have said here before, perhaps it's best to buy directly from the developer when you can.

All of which is why I usually go to www.palmblvd.com or www.downloads.com for free- and share-ware... although I get MOST of my stuff from the dreaded www.freewarepalm.com site! (I am working hard to curb my PDA spending habits!)
I have been limiting Palmgear to viewing their app updates or new postings, and even that has been going downhill. Frankly, I have been debating posting a thread asking if Cliesource can tracked updated apps as requested by members. I guess I will go ahead and do it.

They won't be for long if they piss off their potential customers and make their site unuseable.

I don't think ClieSource members miss much . . . mostly thanks to fireball, rldunn and tixx . . .
(have I said 'THANKS!' recently?)
